If it is just bittorrent it should be okay cause there is still eDonkey, fast track, ares and gnuttella, for web based downloads im considering the possibilites for proxy servers, masking software, encryption tunnels....etc
I seriously hope this bill does not pass.

Not just bit-torrent, even every P2P programs will be monitored.

Unless Conroy is completely nuts he'll test the technology to block peer to peer 'discover' that it doesn't work and use that as an excuse to junk the whole thing as gracefully as possible.

THE Federal Government's controversial internet censorship scheme may extend to filter more online traffic than was first thought, Broadband Minister Stephen Conroy revealed today.
BIG SURPRISE THERE GUYS!

Maybe it's best that they try to take it further and further....
as the severity of the filter increases, the probability of it getting through the senate tends to zero

Let's all write letters to Conroy and our local Members suggesting the filter doesn't go far enough!

Fabian Society - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Labour is basically Communist lite.

Except they believe that Socialism should come from peaceful means rather than revolution.

Very dangerous party they are, I wasn't aware of their associations and leanings until recently.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national...-the-off-switch/2008/12/22/1229794326896.html

They also shut down a website critical of Labour and accuses them of corruption.

You can imagine that once these filters are implemented they'll shut down every blog, website and material that is critical of Labour.

The very fucken article you linked to says that the fabian society attempts to advance social democracy by peaceful means, there is a huge difference between modern social democracy and socialism, do a wikipedia search on the two ideologies and you will see the difference (hopefully). Also a more specific thinker would try to look at the policys of the labor party not its general philosophical origins, the free market reforms of the hawke and keating governments are some of the most capitalist leaning economic policys in modern Australia, so only a moron would say that they are to any degree of significance a communist party.
About the second article ill remind your most feeble mind about the worm incident in last years debate (i wonder who pulled the plug) and also that it was also the intention of the liberal party to censor internet.

Not having the worm vs taking a radio show off air and having my internet censored. Yeah.

Also if the Libs intended to censor the internet, how come they didn't and chose to go with NetAlert instead?

They investigated isp level filtering in the late 90s but decided not to because it was unworkable

Then they released the voluntary, opt-in filtering software which parents could choose to install

But they never ever tried to paint anyone who opposed filtering as a paedophile, like Labor have.

In 2007 the former government made an election promise to provide extra funding for voluntary filtering software where "The plan was to eventually include ISP-level blocking" and they were preparing trials in tasmania, so the proposed end result is exactly like what the labor party is proposing.
Internet censorship in Australia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I oppose internet filtering from either party however it seems as if both of the partys intend to filter porn.

Yeah but which party is actually in power now.

Which party has consistently fucked with my freedoms since Nov last year? Oh that's right, the Labor party.

Get past the LABOR = GOOD; LIBERALS = BAD dichotomy and take the things on face value.
You brought the past into this discussion

They... didn't implement the policies. You've no means for prediction of what they'll actually do. Please put forward a proper argument regardless. The Liberal party currently opposes the filter and will not vote for it in parliament.

Your next point or are you done here?
My original point was "that it was also the intention of the liberal party to censor internet.", they want porn content filtered just as much as the labor party do. Just because they opposed the proposed filter does not mean they dont want porn filtered. You had a good response but to a differnet argument.

They have a differing perspective on the situation and they categorically oppose a 'clean feed' to the internet. What more do they have to do to say 'yeah we want to protect children' but it is the job of their parents. Not mandatory censorship for all, but free filters for all.

What are you actually saying?

Or is this just a slanging match.

Back on topic, Conroy's committing political suicide.
1 year later and a party reborn, similar ringleaders but with new monkeys preforming on the front bench.

Conroy committing political suicide is most certainly a great thing his conservative views are more suited to the family first party or perhaps the liberal party. If this bill gets a vote I think you will see liberal, greens voting against with the more conservative ones in the labor party voting for it and some labor party members/senators abstaining. I think Conroy just wants to advance his political career by being accredited as the architect of a policy. But it will fail because it is one of those "5c fuel excise", "work choices", "alchopops" policies.

Social democracy is the leftist code for Socialism lite, It is still a form of Socialism.

Both parties are in my view anti-freedom but Labour mixes Socialist policy which makes them a bigger threat.

The current Labour party is far more left wing than Keating or Hawke and over the last decade Australia has moved closer towards Socialism, That's a fact.

lol. I love reading zstar's paranoid rants.

Back on topic, though, this is nuts. Conroy plans to filter https (which is extremely dangerous), block p2p and torrents (which aren't even illegal - WoW uses it for example), and just do generally moronic stuff with this filter. If this filter actually passes parliament, it's going to seriously blow out of control. Read about the technical stupidity of it here: http://www.banthisurl.com/2008/12/e...s-apart-flaws-in-aussie-net-filtering-scheme/

Fuck the Labour party, and fuck Rudd. Conroy wouldn't keep pushing this without significant backing. It's clear the religious fucks (including Rudd himself) have their claws deep into the party.

I'm votin' Greens and Liberals next election. It's no good electing a social democracy party if they're going to pander to religious extremists.

Seriously doubt it'd be reversed once implemented.
