Internships@Macquarie
Internship Opportunity for talented researcher
Antony Lowenstein is a freelance journalist and author who has written for the Sydney Morning Herald, Sydneys Sun-Herald, The Bulletin, Znet, Crikey, Counterpunch and many others. He is also the author of a soon to be published book on the Israel/Palestine conflict for Melbourne University Publishing.
Antony's next book (due for release in 2007 through Random House) is an examination of the ways in which the Australian media, and much Western media in general, is failing to hold the government and business elite to account. International issues such as Iraq and East Timor will be explored, as well as the over-reliance of US media perspectives in Australia.
The book will also explore the history of Australian media, what makes balanced journalism, and why much of the public do not trust the media.
Internships@Macquarie is seeking applications from students interested in assisting as a part-time research assistant for Antony's upcoming book. The role involves collecting and analysing material from a variety of different sources (including databases such as Factiva), and assisting with the development of book.
Applicants must have a good understanding of and interest in international relations and the Australian media climate. High level research skills are required.
This part-time position will commence in May and run through till November. The position is unpaid.
Students interested in forwarding an application for the position should submit a resume and cover letter via email to Jo Degney, Internships Program Manager (jo.degney@io.mq.edu.au) no later than Tuesday 16th May.
