Whats everyones view on getting an IBD analyst role with a comm/engo degree over a comm/law degree given similar grades. Tbh i think it is MUCH harder to score well in law than engo because law is subjective whereas an ~82 engo wam is very achievable with lots of hard work. Anyone been on the grad side with a comm/engo? Do you feel it made you stand out/gave you an edge over comm/law grads?

Really depends on the culture of the bank. Some accept all degrees, others might even like the quantitative perspective of an engineer. What year are you?

The degree does not determine whether you get into IB. If you can demonstrate that you are good enough for the role and have an interest in finance (a degree in finance does not count as 'interest in finance') then you are in with a chance regardless of your degree.

Unless you do a degree at UTS/UWS etc. or Arts.

Before IB got really popular, Engineering Graduates were usually hired due to their strong creative and mathematical skills. But I still recommend Commerce/Law. It all depends on which area you wish to enter IB in, Trading, Mergers and Acquisition, FICC etc.

Either works as long as your marks are high. COuld also work if you did something specialised like Petroleum Engineering or the likes and work at a O&G focused shop

Agreed. I'd say demonstrating absolute brilliance in your chosen field gives you far better chances.
