I don't think the Ipod brought anything new when it was released.
It's like saying the new nokiaNXXX is a invention.

What makes the Ipod stand out from other mp3s?

It's efficient easy to use, stylish and consumer friendly?

There are many mp3s/phones that are "easy to use, stylist and consumer friendly" (entirely subjective). That doesn't warrant the iPod to have it's own category.
It just isn't that unique.

The only reason the iPod is so popular is because of its marketing.

No i only use iPod.

Because it benefits me with it's features.

Other Mp3's didn't offer the same benefits.

Previous to the iPod, there were CD players, and only some very bulcky and hard to use hard drive player, but they were pathetic.
the iPod is an invention as it had huge innovation like the click wheel, using SSD hard drives to save space, and an amazing software interface.

whether or not its an invention, its pretty good and makes study and bus trips a lot less horrible. Plus it makes u look 'cool' just by having the little white headset in your ears!
I have to say though that other inventions like the electric light bulb, computer, internet, flushing toilet, and car probably all rate higher with importance 4 me....

There are many mp3 players with better funtionality and features than the ipod. The sound quality and battery-life of ipods, in particular, fail in regard to many others. Apple is exceptional at one thing and that is marketing.

I hate it because i love it so much. Just filled up my old 30gb so looking to buy a newer model.
