1. What is your reason for choosing to complete the HSC?

it was always drummed into me that i would have better career opportunities when i completed my HSC. nowadays many employers are looking for ppl who have finished their HSC. my mum n dad would kill me if i didnt complete my HSC, even though what i want2 get into doesnt require an HSC.

Is your heart racing even while you answer this questionnaire? hah what??!! no

Do you wake up throughout the night? well i did cos i was always panicking about assignments and assessment tasks etc.

Indulge in regular eating frenzies? Can’t eat? yes i have spasmodic eating frenzies

Often feel vague/unclear? Do you sometimes feel nothing at all? what do u mean? depressed?

4. How do you feel about your HSC exams? (You may circle more than one)

EXCITED PREPARED NERVOUS FRUSTRATED DEPRESSED

YES NO if so please list: yes, but i probably would've turned to the help of friends/family before turning to the helplines.

15. Are there any changes you would make to the HSC? If yes, what would they be? i think it would be great if schools implemented a kind of program where they taught kids how to relax through alternative therapies eg yoga, meditation...things that help ppl to cope with the stresses of the HSC. a lot of kids dont do well under stress and perform at their maximum. theres also this stigma attached to ppl choosing subjects--not because they like them but supposedly cos 'it will scale higher' than other subjects...i think thats absolute bullshit and i'd change this social attitude, so that ALL subjects are valued and seen as worthy subjects to take

hope this helps! good luck :bomb:

2. Which of these symptoms of the dreaded HSC stress syndrome have you experienced?

Can’t concentrate? Do you often yawn and doze off? yes... don't fall asleep tho

Regular headaches? Catch yourself daydreaming frequently? definitely daydreaming alot!

Can’t sleep? Go off your brain regularly at your mum, your dad, siblings? arguments with friends and short temper with parents

Do you wake up throughout the night? Wake up thinking about projects whether it is a good idea to do for something or just freaking out about not being able to get everything done on time.

Indulge in regular eating frenzies? Can’t eat? not a problem for me

Often feel vague/unclear? Do you sometimes feel nothing at all? unclear about what teachers expect from students

15. Are there any changes you would make to the HSC? If yes, what would they be?
i wouldn't place as much pressure on kids to do well in the HSC exam. there shouldn't be internal and then external exams... should just be internal and all schools have one project that is the same... such as dnt or art major work. (maybe not as big) but something that can be done at school and at home.

1. What is your reason for choosing to complete the HSC?

Basically, it's always been expected. I never even considered dropping out cos I know that sitting the HSC is the right thing to do for my life in the long run (even if this year does become bloody stressful!!). I like learning (surprise!) and school life...as a generalisation. All my friends are still at school. I just can't picture spending these few years without school.

2. Which of these symptoms of the dreaded HSC stress syndrome have you experienced?

Can't concentrate, get sidetracked SO easily, I procrastinate so much even though there's that little voice in the back of my head telling me to stop and GET BACK TO WORK!!
The other day I started SORTING OUT MY RIBBONS. how much better at procrastinating can you get than that?

and, when I do sit down to work, I just don't know what to do. I can't organise my time properly, I don't know how to study properly. Maths and biology are easy to study, cos it's facts and solid principles, but most of my subjects are humanities, kinda "waffly" subjects (english, society and culture, ext. english, VA theory...) and I fuind it really hard to focus on them.

I don't get headaches, blow my rocker at people, have a racing heart, have trouble sleeping, have eating problems,

but I DO often feel vague and unclear.

I'm also often kindof "quietly stressed". I don't make a big deal of it but i always have that niggling feeling that there's so much to do and i'll never be able to make it!

4. How do you feel about your HSC exams? (You may circle more than one)

I wish that there wasn’t so much emphasis placed on it. That we were reminded by teachers that if you don’t do as well as you want to, that you won’t just die poor and lonely.
We need to be informed of support services as much as possible, and perhaps some of them to be supplied on school grounds.
