If the case study is a short answer, then you have to do it, and it won't be an essay option.

If it is an essay option, it will only be one of the options, never both in the same question, right?

So that means you can choose to only study the case study for a short answer length, but are forced to do the alternate essay on another section of the course.

Yes, this is correct. But be careful as it may be a 6 marker in short answer. Also, the second essay question option may be extremely complicated or hard to some, so just in case, I suggest you learn about 3 policies for your selected economy to avoid that risk.

I'll just add the general advice I give to my students here as well.

There's sort of a trade-off between learning more stuff (and gaining a only a few extra marks), and consolidating old stuff (and maximising marks).

Since the case study would require more study time to learn it in depth as an essay, I'd rather focus on macro and micro essays.
