i know HEAPS of people who have had successful relationships with both genders, and it's not about attention, it's about love, and who you'd rather waste time with.
yes, there are people who use it to attempt to be an 'individual'. it's become fashionable. but that doesn't mean that every bisexual should just be lumped into a category like that.
