Is it hard to get a band 6 in Music or SOR? (1 Viewer)

According to matrix ATAR calculator, if I got a:

band 5 in Ext 1 , adv eng and SOR

band 6 in rest incl. music.


Music gets counted towards my ATAR. Is it hard to get band 6 in music?


I got C for two assessment and I'm absolutely hopeless for aural. I basically have to 'guess' and write ' bull shit' down to get the marks. I don't want to practice my performance pieces either. I don't want to do ext 1 and music HSC on the same day :S.... I did well in SOR. I came 2nd (A) but 20th (C-D) in my tasks. So most likely B overall. RE I take time to study sometimes. Music ICBF...


I want to drop music. Please advise me whether I should.

I've seen so many post with you saying you're going to drop music and whatnot. It sounds like you don't have that natural aptitude for it and don't want to work your butt off in it to make up for that. So I really think you should just drop it, especially because you want to drop it. No point doing a subject you hate if you don't have to.

So for the last time, drop it already!

SOR is extremely easy to get band 6 in the hsc. Half a night study for the HSC is sufficient to get u a band 6 even

but drop music if u hate it

Well, shit for the aural. But not necessarily for performance... Most likely I'll do average/shit in aural for HSC.. there is a chance of doing well in the performances


Say there is a chance of music counting towards my ATAR, then I'd practice for performances

Omg we don't have a crystal ball. Music will only count for your ATAR if it happens to be within your best 8 units after counting English. Just ask yourself if you are better at all your other subjects than music, and if so, drop it. It sounds like a bad idea considering you are so bad at a part of it, though not sure how big a factor that is in HSC music.

I an case, commiserations my friend. I sucked at aural when I did outer school music.

Edit: Cohort's pretty shit too, for music. Only 2-3 people are good in aural.

Sorry I wasn't specifically clear. I meant it was probably bad to keep because you are very weak in one part of the music course. But you should just drop your weakest subject unless you have a burning hate of a particular one. Don't just base it on ranks, but base it on how much work in each subject it took to achieve that rank and which subjects you can most easily improve. What is most beneficial for your ATAR is doing your best subjects and doing as well as you can in them.

I studied hard for SOR (mostly on the essay). I came second in the essay section (section C). Highest mark was 16/20. I got 15/20. Our SOR teacher is a very very tough marker.

But considering I did no shit for music... and still received an average mark (compared to the class).. But I don't want to study for music. Simply because it seems like I'm not getting anything done and most of the times it feels like I'm wasting my time studying for it, when I could be studying for... phy/chem/math w.e


My guitar got fked up so I have to fix it. Therefore, didn't practice my performance for like the whole term. I am probably one of the best at performances in my class but I always fk up at least 1 part of the song.


In year 9 I dropped my pick. Year 10 I missed a whole lot of notes. Year 11 I was playing Master of puppets faster than the average track (because I couldn't hear it). So I got a feeling that I'll most likely going to fk up one section. I chose canon rock... but I can't play it 100% well. For other 2 modules, I chose He's a pirate (which I don't even know how to play) and this hard song (which I don't want to practice). I just enjoy playing canon rock in my break time.... It'd be good to drop it right ? Since I'm not 100% good in performance and am doing pretty shit in aural.

Its sounds like your trying to Persuade yourself more than us. If your so good at practicals, but you have stuffed everyone up, im sorry, but that means your not good at practicals, 100% failure rate. If your doing canon rock... your going to need to play it well, because how many kids have done it in the past 5 years, and done it awesomely. And if your playing songs you don't want to practice, then what the hell are you doing it for.

Personally, i love music, Drummer, but i didn't want to turn year 11+12 into a year where i was forced to do music. (I wanted to enjoy it in my own time) IMO drop it, it seems like thats what you really want to do anyway

Here, we'll decide for you. It is easier to get a Band 6 in SORI than it is to get a Band 6 in Music. Not only that, but if you don't get a high Band 6 in Music I, then it's entirely wasted due to scaling... while SORI scaling is decent enough to count in just about every case.

Done.

N.B. SORI requires a lot less work.
