So i'm in year 8 thinking of transferring into Ruse year 9 2026, would it be worth it to transfer just for ag? I know many people go there for the academic side of things and not agriculture. I've always loved animals + agriculture, have been to the Easter show pretty much every single year, i visit the zoo often etc... so would it be worth it to transfer just for one subject I enjoy(i plan to be a vet one day asw)? Current school is a top 10 selective so i dont think it would be that different academically, yr9 electives are about the same in both schools. Tbh Ruse is much nearer for me than my school but those r the only reasons i have to transfer.

okay thanks i think i should be able to make it in. i see you're a ruse senior, do u recommend ruse or nah?
I would highly recommend James Ruse, with the caveat that academic environment is intense. But, it's balanced by its phenomenal results and overwhelmingly positive standing in the community. Also when you do get in can you donate me some past papers for year 9? :)

Ja that's true, but since I go to a top 10 already I'm hoping it won't be too much of a jump. Aren't past papers copyrighted? but if they aren't i'd be willing to

Since making this post I've decided that I really do want to go to Ruse, at the start I was like "oh they offer agriculture, I should take the test just for funsies" but now I'm actually determined to make it in next year. If anyone has tips or an insight about what JR is like that would be much appreciated :)

imagine wanting to deal with even more internal competition. it actually will work against your favour because imagine ur sick or something for one exam so u dont perform how u normally would, because of that, you'll be last ranked and u will take the last ranked assessment mark, which based on statistics IS NEVER a band 6.

the average 2024 JR hsc mark for math advanced was 88, which is embarrassingly low for a top school. If you have any basic grasp of math, you'd realise that this means there must be quite a few people with a hsc mark below 88.

I wouldn't have gotten a band 6 in math advanced if I was in the JR cohort just because their exams are much more difficult and competition is so excessive. Because there's barely any top people in my school, competition was much less and I could fail one easy exam and still get a 90 assessment mark from 4th rank.

It's much WORSE to be ranked in the middle in James Ruse than ranked 1st or even 2nd in even a rank 300 school (I'm assuming you're top ranked in your school otherwise why the fuck are you trying to join james ruse)

tldr: competition is much fierce at james ruse, so if you mess up an internal, you will NOT be able to recover ur hsc mark with the exam since you will be ranked very low, hence take the assessment marks of the many low people and literal drop kicks (even in james ruse).

he said he already goes to a top 10 school so the comp prob won't be that much different

Good luck! One of my sister's friends, who transferred there in year 11, was able to do four unit maths/math extension 2. I don't think is really relevant but anything can help. :) (I'm really not bothered to speak academically it's getting a little late and the sleep deprivation is getting to me)

I did alright, it was just numerical reasoning that threw me off because most of it was financial maths problems, those things are my worst enemy. But other than that I actually locked in so now I'm just manifesting that i'll get accepted !
Do you think you prepared enough? Matrix has a myriad of resources, did you try those?
