Hiya peeps,
The title pretty much.
I've heard its a decent university especially when compared to UWS but how does it stack up to UNSW, Syd and UTS. Also how is the social lif there. And like what ethnicities are common over there?
The engineering faculty, well atleast as seen through the website, doesn't seem that good. Are the faculties there good? Also why tf does Macquarie offer a web development major??!??
Thanks churros :)

Good for transport
Good for access to foods/shops

Social life is pretty good but it's mainly up to the individual to make the effort(like all unis). I can say that many of us are friendly and don't bite!

Most of the courses are similar/same prestige as UTS

Yes mq offers a web development major in the bachelor of IT

Also feel free to say hi at the MQ Uni chitchat thread

According to the consensus of most people on this forum and outsiders UNSW and USYD enjoys a much better reputation amongst employers and also the students I assume are more hard working and dedicated due to the higher ATAR requirements. However the teaching and quality is all the same across all Universities. I have set foot on all the Universities except for UWS, so I don't know a lot about the campus and the feel over there.

The MQ campus is nice with its large open areas and spreadout buildings plus its location which is within walking distance to the mall, station and bus stops. Don't forget that MQ Library is humongous and simply the most modern and sophisticated out there with its large study areas and its classy interior + exterior, also quiet as hell. Btw MQ lacks a Engineering focus in terms of the usual Engo fields like Civil, Mechanical, etc...

UTS doesn't have a campus fell due to its buildings which are like sky scrapers and spread out across the CBD, like there isn't one central location such as a quad where everyone can easily hang out and chill. Lot of the UTS buildings especially the Engineering and Business ones are quite modern and stylish compared in comparison to the other Universities even MQ however UTS's library is crap in comparison to MQs. However all that being said its location in the CBD is the best I guess out of all the Universities and it obvious closeness to all forms of public transport.

Disregarding UNSW/USYD, if it came to MQ and UTS I would say go to the one closest and easiest to get to.

Travel time is also a pretty important consideration.

Also has a nicer bar then UTS but I doubt that will make a difference ;)

Despite being at MQ for 2 years, I have never been to Ubar

Generally UNSW and usyd are considered "top", followed by UTS and Macquarie. Some courses, such as Ancient History and Actuarial Studies are highly regarded.

Also how is the social lif there.
It's pretty good. There's plenty of weekly events on campus, plus if you join any clubs or societies they should have regular events too.

And like what ethnicities are common over there
As with most of Sydney, it's predominantly white and Asian. Some areas, such as accounting, tend to have more international students.

Being the engineering faculty, they probably haven't bothered to update their website properly. The university only offers mechanical/electronic/software engineering because it can specialise in these fields and don't see a need to offer civil and other types of engineering.

Also why tf does Macquarie offer a web development major??!??

Probably because you didn't look hard enough!

I've gone to unsw and maq and hands down Macquarie is better. Macquarie is easier to drive to, with UNSW being next to the city it has tons of traffic in the morning and after work. Macqurie has parking permits which are affordable, UNSW only gave parking permits to post graduate students and staff while finding street parking was painful. The actual Uni is a lot prettier with all its trees and it is smaller so easier to get from one side to the other. All lectures are recorded which at unsw when I was there it wasn't. Plus people are more laid back.

Cons: UNSW does have a better reputation so will help for getting jobs. Saying that I know loads of people who have got good jobs from Maq, as you can offset Uni prestige by work experience and good grades (which its easier to get good grades at maq than UNSW)
