Hi guys!

My goal is to study PPE in the UK, as I have family that go to LSE and imperial college, and the way I am going now with my marks right now (except for chemistry :/), I can definitely look to applying to those universities. (Oxford would be nice but it is just too expensive). However, in the midst of Covid-19 I am not sure if I would even be able to travel to the UK, and I do not want to do the course via zoom (this is a absolute no for me). So is PPE better facilitated by UNSW or ANU? And are there any other universities that offer this course?

Thanks guys!

I wasn’t able to find direct information as to which is the better uni for this course, but I used an approach that can give you an idea of what it may be like. I broke down the course into its three main areas and compared them each using QS (2021):

Psychology:

UNSW - 24
ANU - 38

Philosophy:

UNSW - 101-150
ANU - 5

Economics:

UNSW - 42
ANU - 33

Based on this info, I would believe ANU is the better option overall.

(Also, it’s great that you want to study in the UK. I’ve always wanted to study in France)

One thing to note: ANU = Canberra. Since you’re considering international, living funds should be fine but Canberra isn’t all that buzzing.

ANU is better. Courses are comparable, but the student life is far better.

BUT, be careful about pursuing PPE - I have friends studying PPE at ANU and Oxford and they are all struggling to find a job as PPE isn't technical. No job listing is ever going to specifically ask "we want people with a PPE". Try to pair it with something quantitative (aka STEM) so you avoid the headache of trying to find a job after you graduate.

How can someone pair it with something quantative, would is be focusing on economics more?

LSE requirements at least a 97 to 98 atar for most courses, and you'd have to pay your international fees up front for the whole first semester. the fees are are around 15,000 pounds for the course, and then you's have to add living expenses which could bump it up to 25,000 pounds. 25,000 pounds is practically 50,000 dollars Australian.

Yeah. More economics, more maths, more programming (this would be super helpful as it is also a very transferable skill).

Ironically, the humanities are more my strong suit than maths. I think I might focus on economics as there is a socio-element within it- in regards to macroeconomics. However, programming seems very interesting, but very tedious. I know people who program, and one guy who is 18, and already has greys starting to show up. He chose programming and computer-science at USYD. We call him old man lol.
