If both subjects had no capping in the scaled marks

then if you get 100% scaled mark in 2 units mathematics and 100% scaled mark in mathematics extension 1 they will both contribute equally to your uai on a 1-unit basis (i.e including only 1 half of 2 unit mathematics)
