So im planning for my eco essay coming up and am wondering whether there should be a set in stone amount of body poaragraphs. Because im thinking ofd doing many body paragraphs that are alot smaller- one context one then followed by cyclical and structural effects that effect these respective areas of context that im addressing.

is this allowed?

I think so or at least my eco teacher actually tells us to have a paragraph on each argument/factor, regardless how big the paragraph might be (she told us that paragraphs shouldn't be longer than a page so yeah)

If you're doing a BOP essay, that's exactly how I would structure it too. Just make sure you're including some sort of evidence in each body paragraph

Hey - your idea actually makes a lot of sense, and yes, it’s totally allowed. HSC Economics essays aren’t like English where the paragraph count or structure is rigid - the most important thing is clarity and strength of argument.

Breaking a big idea into smaller, focused paragraphs - like one for context, one for structural effects, one for cyclical effects - can actually help your marker follow your reasoning better, as long as each paragraph:
  • Has a clear topic sentence that links to the question
  • Explains cause-effect using economic theory
  • Supports it with evidence or stats
  • Links back to your overall thesis
Just make sure each paragraph adds something distinct and doesn’t repeat the same point. Think of it like building a chain of logic - each part adds weight to your answer. Happy to help review any structures you've tried, just reach out.
