Exactly, what did anyone achieive during this war? Absolutely fuck all. Did Israel break Hamas? Nope, they have just bolstered the ranks thanks to the civilian losses. Congrats, you'll now be dealing with this problem for another few decades. Did Hamas "drive Israel into the sea"? lmfao and they never will. Israel is there to stay no matter how hard they try to delude themselves.I don't really see how either side could say they won. Particularly the cowards hiding in Syria.
So the outcome was? Well, 500ish Hamas dudes died, that's a plus - the less fundies the better. About 700 civilians died, the family and friends of whom will probably join Hamas now. Oh yeah, the IDF bombed the shit out of the UN, because those guys are macho-terrywrists. They managed to bomb a couple hospitals, a bunch of schools a couple of medical centers blah blah, collateral damage.
There was an interview last night with Sara Roy, who is the worlds leading expert on Gaza and is the Professor for Middle East Studies at Harvard (iirc). She estimated that the war cost the already poor economy close to $5Billion. Keep in mind that you are talking about an economy that is being strangled from the outside. They suffer from food shortages, lack of medicine and an inability to trade thanks to the blockades in place by the IDF. Add to that the damage to infrastructure etc and you are up shit creek without a paddle. What does Israel expect the people living in Gaza to do now? Live off aid? They need to lift the blockade on essentials like food, medicine and let trade flow etc so that they can get back on their feet.Anyone here heard that the cost to build Gaza will be around 1 billion pounds? I really want to see where they'll end up getting the money.
