You voted for the party, not the leader.
We voted for a party which uniformly promised to govern by means of a Rudd premiership which would be the sole player in choosing the frontbench, never mind Rudd breaking his promises, the ALP has broken the fundamental undertaking it made to the Australian people at the previous election.

There is nothing wrong with a female PM!!! But we DID NOT vote for Gillard! We cant really say much for K rudd as PM either but chosing him would be the lesser evil.
fuck off moron

you voted for the party

why are people so dumb

Can someone give me some disadvantages of Julia Gillard?
what don't you like about her?
i don't know enough to comment on her.

Do you think Labor has a better chance of winning the election now or it's more certain that the Liberals will win?

i think they'll function better as a party. one of the criticisms of rudd was that he pretty much made a lot of decisions off his own back without consultation. if she can spread some of the decision making power around a bit more as well as getting rid of conroy (one of the biggest problems in terms of younger voters) i think it will definitely help their cause.

Oh bullshit. Does this mean no sitting PM or Premier is ever allowed to retire or whatever midway through a term? I hope people weren't this whiney in 1991, 1971, 1966 etc. Especially given she'll be Prime Minister of all of about two fucking months before the election's called.

I've been rooting for Gillard since 2001, when I was 14. Hopefully she lives up to the expectations, she could well be the greatest Prime Minister since Whitlam, if not even Curtin/Chifley. I'm worried about the consequences of the election (only in that this is a completely untried tactic), but if it works, this should be great for Australia.

What does she stand for? any good sources? Wikipedia has a tiny article on her?
What kind of social issues does she stand for that differ from Rudd?

Mate its as flimsy or as strong as the justification that people voted for labor not for Rudd, as though labor under Beazley or Latham or Crean were the same thing, the peoples choice of government, that in the eyes of the electorate it imbued the same values that they think this government is imbued with. It was a presidential style election and anyone who denies it is a liar or a fool.

anyone listening to K Rudd's last press conference right now?
It's actually a bit sad. Yeah, he's unpopular, but he obviously held his job in high regard and did, in his own way, seek to fulfil the interests of Australians.

Julia FTW!

Also, really hate people that are all 'I voted for Rudd, not Julia!'. Well sorry, but unless you live in the seat of Griffith you did not vote for Rudd. You voted for your Labor candidate, which internally elected to make Rudd their leader and have the right to remove their support if they believe it is in the best interest of their party. So yes, you did vote for Julia when you voted for the party.

Rudd is staying in parliament and will recontest his seat.

Sounds like he will be willing to serve on the frontbench.

I'd imagine he'd be offered the foreign ministry

Yeah well the question has to be asked, what else is there to do? He's a millionaire, former prime minister of Australia, ex senior diplomat, not much else to achieve but hang around and hope.
