Out of curiosity, why is there a lack of university "how to study" guide threads? Is it because the method of study varies with the course?

I think it has mainly to do with the fact that university study is more of independent learning, so it is really up to the individual to find out the method of study that works for them. Good observation:)-maybe you can make an university study guide in the future:)

Maybe it's because you're not in their year. I can just imagine next year where the Tertiary Education forums would be flooded with guide threads created by you.

There is a 'What’s expected of you' section in our general guide here:

http://community.boredofstudies.org...sion/first-years-guide-university-314389.html

But the main reason? Everything on this site is user generated. So if we don't have something, it's because nobody has created it. We're always welcome for people to provide guides though, and if they're good enough, they will be stickied as a permanent display.

The reason behind the lack of study guides for university mainly relates to the diversity of uni. There are so many different courses and units which require vastly different approaches, which kind of makes a detailed guide unfeasible. For example, even in my Commerce degree, what you needed to do varied greatly depending on the unit and lecturer. The strategy needed to do well in one unit was sometimes completely different to what you needed to do in another. Given this, the best we can do is a very general guide like the one we currently have. In contrast, with HS, everyone does the same basic subjects and there are rigid standards - so it's much easier to create guides for each subject.
