This is not entirely true, Macquarie uni has one of the best law schools, it is certainly a legal pathway and provides for good oppurtunity especially where business is concerned. I found it is better than sydney uni in how it offers Social Science and Law.

A little note though, all unis say they have the best law school:

Usyd: "Australia's first"
MQ: "flexible and innovative"
UWS: Have a professional in law quoting it as a good law school
Bond: A supposedly the best law school in Australia.

YOU CHOOSE!

hmm, after discussing Law @ Macq, anyone have any idea how their reputation compares with Law @ UTS?

From what I've read, it's comparable - as in it belongs to the second tier of universities for Law in NSW.

UTS is a good law school, they not only have legal training for practice, but they also have a special MLLP program (Master of Law and Legal Practice) - this is a postgrad for students who have completed a non-law bachelor's and are seeking to do legal practice.

There are a several reasons why Mac law is "looked down upon"- an uncle of mine who is a partner at Freehills told me that Mac lecturers teach law in a very "unorthodox" manner, which many firms do not like! (I'm not to sure what that means...) Also, Mac's examinations are often open book apparently, and that is frowned upon by many firms. The Uni does not have any "star graduates" (judges, polis...) and 98% of the partners of 'succesful' and large firms are from usyd, unsw, uts and occasionally uow.

While this all seems quite primative, it's the harsh reality, as I know many 4th and 5th year mac students, who are simply unable to get clerkships in the legal industry.

Man u make it seem like da absolute shits to do Law at MaQ... But it cant be dat baad?? Can it?? Da only reason that MaQ Dun have the people high up in da legal industry is because it aint been established for that long.. By the time i get outta uni hopefully things would have started to change and there would be better recognition out dere for MaQ Rite???

I thought it was cool to see Actuarial/Law at Mac owning any law course at UNSW in cut offs.....

But yeah I don't know about Macquarie's law rep... I know a lot of people who chose ANU or UTS over Macquarie law. And I have seen a lot of airhead dumbasses in Macquarie law.....

Well, to be more specific, what I heard was that a HD at Mac is not the same as a HD at UTS or UNSW, thus when they translate your uni marks into a new UAI, it does not turn all too high, despite your high internal marks. (If that makes sense!)

It is harder to get high marks at Macq then it is at say UNSW or USyd.

Also the Macq GPA system is only for Internal transfers.

Btw, this is a fact, and not just something heard of.
