Lol...seems fun to do. I'm in mock trial this year and plan to be second barrister. Bit of work to get done but the case seems interesting.

GAME ON baby!
Hell yeah. Second barrister's a great position, even if it is a bit high-stress at times (principally in the ludicrously short period when you finish off the closing address).

I made it to the team this year. At my school it's more of a year 11 thing and we usually do pretty well =]. I think we won Eastern Region last year. I really hope it'll be a good experience and that it will make legal studies just that much more interesting.

Allocated by whom?!
This is what the competition manual says: "Every effort will be made to allocate a lawyer as a coach for each competing team by the first round of the competition" (Rule 23) I suppose The Law Society of NSW organises this.

i had the manual with me for every trial..
the opposing team had nothing on us babeh.
i'd page and rule reference them on every 'illegal' action...

'OBJECTION, your honor, according to the Law societys interschool mock trial manual, on page...'
hhaha..
i'm such a loser :)
once for a debate [i'm third speaker] i was summing up our case..
'in conclusion, the defence submit....'
the adjudacator gave me a look..
hhaha.
we still won :)

Get your teacher to get in touch with Robyn Cross at the NSW Law Society. She looks after the whole thing. Contact details are probably on the website.

Usually all our team members come from the legal studies classes, however, you do not have to be studying legal to try out. I think in the past they've liked drama students or any other students who are orally skilled or really interested etc.

I'm not entirely sure about the english thing tho...

I'm not sure....our school has all the notes and things but we havn't started preparing yet so u might have time...but then again the draws and things have already been put together i think. It'd be worth checking out tho :)

Well the first round is a "practice round" so it's possible that you could even skip the first round if you're really late on registering your school.

I went to our mock trial meeting this morning and my teacher hands me some notes and says:

"there's been a mistake. we're actually the prosectution"

So now both sides have both the prosecution and the defense notes. Did this happen to anyone else?

Yes. That happened to us. We got the wrong side by mistake, but the teacher sorted it all out before anything was given out. We were all trying to the right thing, so we only saw the defence notes - as were supposed to. Except the other school used both sides, so they had a big advantage. We lost, but only by a few points.

i go to north sydney boys
and our first mock trial is next week on monday
we are nearly all ready
we are the defence
i really wanna know the prosecution side
coz there is a bit of a ummm- discontinuity in the defendants script

we are versing roseville girls in the practice round
we have been warned that those private school girls
are ruthless!!!!
haha theyll cry, theyll suck up to the magistrate
theyll do anything to win
so i warn all other innocent public school people
who are versing a private school
consider yourselves warned!

haha
