If you do econometrics could you comment on the level of maths in the course and the level of maths a HSC student shoud have in order to takeit.

2u maths will be suffice. The major is more to focused on economical statistics than actual maths, at MQ the only subject closest to mathematics you study is first year stats (you can choose from the easy one or the hard one), the rest of the course you study economics units

I asked my careers advisor and she said at least general because its "assumed knowledge". In uni they will only teach u the required maths.

So what is stats? All I've learnt is like standard deviations, means, modes and all that lol.

Pretty much. Testing the data that is given to you to come with a reasonable conclusion etc

I don't do econometrics but first year stats is pretty simple stuff, as opposed to higher level econometrics I can't comment, but I would imagine it won't be that hard

I thought it was economic forecasting...
Like using stats to recognize trends and predict things to come.

the level of maths required is really low.

general maths would be sufficient. but to get a good understanding of econometrics and how they work, a good understanding of 2unit calculus would be helpful in understanding the proofs and theorems.

so it's like applications of stats into economics tocreate models and stuff like that..

take some material about econometrics

take some books about:
1 time series
2 Regression
3 statistical inference theory

compare.

Ofcourse those who make a living out of econometrics would like others to think they are different and special...
