Hi everyone,

I'm doing the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science with a major in the science stream (Computer Science)
Now I know that 48 Credit Points is the general full-time load.
So...

For a major in Computer Science the guidebook states that for the first year Comp Sci major I need:
Essential: 12 CP of Junior Comp Sci
Recommended: 12 CP of Mathematics and 24 CP of Electives.

INFO1103 - 6CP - Semester 1
JPNS1611 - 6CP - Semester 1
ATHK1001 - 6CP - Semester 1
INFO1003 - 6CP - Semester 1
Total: 24CP

MATH1004 - 3CP - Semester 2.
MATH1005 - 3CP - Semster 2
INFO1105 - 6CP - Semester 2
JPNS1612 - 6CP - Semester 2
WRIT1001 - 6CP - Semester 2
Total: 24CP

Year Total: 48CP

I went through the Computer Science Table of units and I saw that the only required MATH unit was Discrete Maths (MATH1004)(3CP) for further study, so as to even up the amount of CP for each semester I picked up Statistics as well.

The question is are the 12 CP of Regular level math ... necessary? (Even though they are recommended) Or are the 6CP of Math I have currently sufficient for Intermediate study..? >.>

(Not sure if the info i provided was enough ... or just not necessary for this question)

(Comp Sci Table 1)

I appreciate any help :D

For Comp Sci, MATH1004 is sufficient. MATH1901,2,3 are relatively irrelevant to comp sci. MATH1902 would definitely be unneeded. MATH1901/3 are calculus units and are useful for engineering.

Statistics is relevant if you end up studying data analytics, otherwise it isn't needed so much.
