do the classes- body pump (weights) and body combat (combo of boxing, and martial arts) in particular- they are AMAZING. You can take them at your own pace, they'll keep you motivated because they have good music/ the instructors are motivating etc., but the best part is that you're basically locked in for an hour at a time, because if you're like me, I would never be bothered to work out on the machines by myself for an hour at a time.

Yes, they are quite good programs, but dont forget diet is more important.

Many people, when trying to lose weight will starve themselves - I dont recommend this. Your body still requires quality nutrients ESPECIALLY if you are working out (which is also imperative).
Starving yourself in the long term also makes your body to turn every available calorie into fat for storage, as it thinks you're in a famine and instinctively prepares you for it.

hi ppl i was just wondering wot gym is like, is it really good?
ok i break it to you straight:

well, you see im a pretty fat bastard and after the hsc i wanna lose all those fat
of my thighs, ass, tummi and chest(manboobs) oh yea and i cut out damm fuken junk foods like krispykreme, marebars, doritos, &maccas

whch gym do you go?? does it cost alot?

Much appreciated
kripsy kremes are evil u shoulda never got hooked lol, do some research if your really into losing weight, look p fitness sites, i find www.askmen.com is very helpful in all aspects of a mans life...updates very regularly too

fitness first is the best gym if you have the money become a member and get a personal trainer

cut down on the carbs supplement them with veges and FRUIT

i know it tastes like shit but u gotta do it...also if u eat alot of pasta...cut down on that too and white bread...fuck white bread off and start eating brown

do alot of cardiovascular exercise (eg running, exercise bike) basically anything that makes you sweat...and do it for at least 30 minutes or until you start really sweating....then have a 15 min break then do it again....

losing weight is hard i wish you the best of luck

im lucky i never had to do it, i could only imagine how hard it would be...got enough trouble trying to get the whole toned abdominal muscle thing goin :D

diet and exercise....thats all u need to know

dont deprive yourself entirely of your temptations though because you will crave more and more and when you give into those cravings it will put on more weight than it usually does....eat what you like, but in moderation...

anyway don't fully listen to me, do some research and listen to the experts...personal trainer and gym membership is the best way to go though

http://www.wannabebigforums.com/ will have just about any questions you have about fitness.

Diet, commitment and consistency are the most important things in loosing fat. Studies have shown tha the most effective way to loose fat is to do HIIT ( high intensity interval training) on a fairly low carb died with a carb refill day every fortnight or so.

Killing the cravings for foods you love is the hardest part of a diet but it begins to wear off after around 3 weeks of dieting when your body begins to adapt to eating healthy. Whenever you get cravings just ask yourself what you want more, that big mack or a toned body.

Also if your going to go on a low carb died make sure its not around any exams/assesment tasks. The first few weeks of being on a low carb diet is absolute hell as your body has to adjust to using ketones and energy and you will constantly feel drained and sleepy.

Also do not starve yourself, its not an opption in weight/fat loss, if you restrict your calorie intake by too much your body will go into starvation mode and your metabolism will slow down too much.

If your fairly fat, simply throwing the crap out of your diet such as soft drinks and fatty foods and adopting a casual exercise regeime will go a long way for you. Just take it slow, be patient and remember that the most important thing in dieting is consistency.

Use http://www.fitday.com/ to manage your calories in/out.

Your weight is a by product of your lifestyle - what you eat (and how much), as well as how often you exercise (and what kind).

Start off slowly with nutrition changes, you want it to last.

some people stay pretty trim no matter what they do, because they have a fast metabolism, and ur right if u starve urself ur metabolism slows and u get fatter. not only this, say u decide to starve urself for a month. after that time wen u start to eat normally again ur body will put weight on faster.
the only way to do it is, like has been said, dont have as many carbs and exercise regularly. but on top of this look at having more protein. protein helps u build muscle and if ur not eating as much food, rather than eating sugar (thus contributing to fat) eat something with protein, like fish or eggs or meat.
and a gym tip: dont concetrate on ur arms, or ur pecs or ur abs. the only way to do weights is to do ur whole body. ive heard stories of people only doing their pecs and having back problems similar to porn stars with ridiculously big tits.
oh yeh and superset! as in dont stop for too long between sets of weights, keep moving and keep doing stuff, cos adrenaline will kick in helping u to do stuff, tiring u, making ur body work.

thats about it i reckon.
sorry if ive repeated anything i didnt wana read the whole thing.

Hitting the weights is great for reducing fat levels.

Sure you burn calories while you are actually doing the work, but this is not as effective as other forms of more intense cardio such as running.

The real benefit is that when you add muscle, it's metabolically active, meaning it burns calories even when you're not using it! So I guess an appropriate analogy is that a session on the treadmill is being given a fish and a session of weights is being taught how to fish.

Hope it goes well.
