There are three major types of crime listed in law.
- Crimes against the person
- Crimes against property
- Crimes against the state
one could also include:
- International Crimes
White Collar crime is special because it is a relatively new type of crime. It includes such crimes as embezzlement, tax evasion etc. People who commit white collar crimes are generally intelligent and in a position of power. Corporate corruption is the current buzzword for this sort of thing.
White Collar crime is a 'Crime against property' (aka Economic Offences), however some people look at it as a completely seperate catagory. Others view it as a subheading under Crimes against property.
I would have to disagree with the first part. There is no such thing as major types (this is more of an priority of criminal issue). There are many areas of crime:
-Against a person
-Economic
-Crimes against the state
-Traffic Offences
-Public Order
-Victimless
The above are domestic.
The types of international crime are:
-Crimes outside National Jurisdiction
-Transnational Crime
-Crimes against humanity.
"White Collar crime is special because it is a relatively new type of crime. " I would also have to disagree again, white collar is not new, evading tax has been something thaty has been punished in many civilsations from the Ancient times, the term "white collar" is something that can be viewed as being new to label this crime, but the act is not. Corperate corruption is not embezzlement. Embezzlement has to be committed by an employee, not employer or partner. You must be referring to Fraud, Evasion or another breach of regulations by ASIC.
