Isn't it stock standard for companies to hire during 2nd/3rd year and during breaks so that they work full-time and not break their study?

I mean sure some smaller companies might break the mould,but the larger companies...

It's more common, but don't treat it as the only option. There's a diverse range of companies not fitting that mould, and you don't want to miss out just because "it's not the norm".
