Hah in a Hungry Beast interview, Conroy compared the proposed Australian filter to China's filter.

And the interviewer just had this look on his face... like how could drawing a parallel to China, that doesn't let you use Facebook or google Tiananmen square, possibly be a good thing.
lol. Was this in the original HB interview? Or a more recent one?

well considering rudd is pretty much a chinese communist sleeper agent, this is likely a move to appease the motherland so he can become glorious leader of australia province of the people's republic of china after the takeover.

are you fucking kidding me you dumb fuck? the filter will not block out mere child porn but rather a whole range of content that is considered "refused classification"; the acma compiles the rc list based on the lists of child abuse material provided by various overseas agencies as well as complaints from the public, that means anyone and their dog can have something added to the blacklist. once the filtering is in place, be prepared to have pretty much the interwebz added to the blacklist by various religious lobby groups.

also, mandatory isp backbone level censorship is a slippery slope. we don't have the first amendment, there is no legislative guarantee in place that the government will not use the filter to curtail free speech and to block out political dissent in the future. this whole bullshit goes against what liberal democracy stands for. we may as well become a province of the "people's republic of china".
SA already tried to ban bloggers from using false names when criticising the government, and look how that went.

Why hasnt this been discussed publicly? They should do a segment on a news forum so someone can tell everyone Filter will not stop the Kiddy Porn.

Have they abolished that now? At the time, they stopped enforcing it, though the law was still in place.

They backed off after a huge public outcry.

The filter will not work, Euthanasia groups are already setting up, taking bookings and showing people how to circumvent the POS filter. ~70% of the current bookings dont even have a terminal disease. If the public wants something, they will get it.

As for CP, the shit is sent via P2P, a system where the filter will have no effect what so ever, and the AFP have already got their tentacles in there snapping up CP distributors.

Similarly, people are stockpiling all the RC content that can get a hold of.

Once again, the govenrment / laws lag behind technology.

The laws for music copying are ridiculous. As far as I'm aware if I buy a CD I am not allowed to burn a backup copy. BUT I BOUGHT THE CD. I OWN THE CID. It's for private use.

This filter is yet another example of how the government lags behind the technology advancements (pun intended :D) and they will pay for it ultiamtely. And so will we. This is also another example of the tech-savvy public being able to get around these ridiculous laws.

We really need more public outcry about this. That is the only way we can stop it. And vote right at the election. But the problem is that if you vote Rudd out you get someone even worse - Abott. I'm not sure I want either.

Doesn't labor get the Green votes due to preferencing anyway?
I am pretty sure there is an above section where you tick one box and it votes for you according to party preferences or you can vote below that section and you can preference as you like.

Should be a public vote really, it will effect some peoples lively hoods and education, take a look at how the DET filter stuffed up, blocked google, google images, etc for weeks.

A home based filter will work better, the parents can block what they want when they want.Send one out in the mail, it should be cheaper then what they are trying to do now.

Yes, I watched Q&A last night and watched the U.S. Ambassador slam Conroy's filter.

The election cannot come soon enough.

Sadly it's not too common for a government to get booted out of office in its first term. As much as I'm hoping it will, I can't really see it happening.
Nor can I. As much as I want a new government, I don't think the Liberals as they are now are the right government. So I think most voters will just vote the Rudd government back in.

And WTF is Gillard doing with this MySchool thing and the NAPLAN tests? Getting parents to supervise? Just give up!
