I had a huuuge dilemma..
In the main round, i got an offer to study at UTS (B Bus/ B Comp)
in the late round, i got an offer to study at Maq (B Bus Admin)

I accepted UTS offer. becuz i thought it has a better reputation in the business/commerce area. I also liked the fact that its in the city.

However, I sort of regret this decision.
I occasionally went to maq uni library to study in yr12.
and looking back, i had great memories there...and i sumhow built a emotional attachment to maq uni. i felt so comfortable at maq campus.
when i drive past maq uni n maq centre...it always brings back good memories...

the campus has nice and relaxed feel to it. too shame that i was too dumb to realise that before.

Maq uni is better than UTS in the business department... well i always thought that anyway... i thought UTS was all about computers, design and alright at accounting...

i rekon maq is better because it offers more business subjects, i.e business administration, ebusiness, commerce, commerce-marketing, economics, etc etc whereas UTS only has like business doesnt it and den ur spose to choose ur path of study afterwards... errh i dunno... to me i'de rather do business type subjects at MAQ den UTS

however UNSW has the best reputation for commerce so yeahh... oh well i rekon MAQ will be just as good as sydney university in the comming years...
we need more buildings, pools etc and once we have that train station.... MACQ will kill it!!
UWS's reputation is getting better as well.... their business and commerce degree is nearing 90's !! *feels proud*

UTS has built its reputation with the practicality of its courses.
It is well known to people and corporations that UTS Business grauduates are a high calibre with the practical skills to start their job from day 1.

Business courses in maq doesnt have this, or any, specific qualities that are recognised by the general public (unlike acturial studies at maq)

Also, just because maq offers more business related subjects or combo, it doesnt mean that it is "better"

In saying that, i also agree with u (clairgirl) that UNSW has one of the best reputation for commerce. I also think that USYD is in the calibre. Both have an excellent reputation in the commerce field, but the quality of its courses is an another issue.

Naah dude. Business at UTS is pretty much like everywhere else...so no real 'practical' stuff...at least no more in comparison to other unis. Well that's what people there tell me.

Hmm...what recognition to do you get from UTS? This general practical vibe or something. Yeah good one. That's like saying that macq students will all be 'innovative'.

If you want practicality, go to Tafe.

The business degree at UTS seems to have fluctuations in popularity. Quite poular now, but in my year (2000) it's cutoff at the city campus was 85.

Business Administration at Macq sh*ts ALL OVER Business at UTS in teaching management and business stragety.

Something interesting to think about: MBA at Macq (MGSM) is the best in Australia. UTS MBA is one of the worst. Some MGSM lecturers teach undergrad business admin...nuff said.

So in short, you're wrong!

Sorry, i'll have to give my vote to AGSM. The Financial Times 2004 ranking of full time MBA programs placed AGSM as the leading business school in Australia and equal first in Asia.

Nope, it's gonna be called 'Macquarie University' Station. The next stop will be 'Macquarie Park', then 'Delhi Road' and then it connects to Chatswood.

I heard 2008 is when it's opening. And I think I heard on the news ages ago that the Parramatta to Epping bit of the 'Para to Chatswood' line has been scrapped.

Haha I remember at the start of my contracts exam they gave a warning that there may be 'explosions' heard...due to construction. hehe.

well it depends on what sources you take. According to EIU (Economist Intelligence Units) Macquarie rank 1 in Australia and no 40 in the world while AGSM rank 84 in the world.
Yeah, both MGSM and AGSM are top graduate school.

I don't believe too which course is much better, Macquarie or UTS i think both offer a good one, only you can make difference and how good you are. Actually our commerce are not that far behind with UNSW since Actuarial study mostly they have to take subjects from economic, accounting/finance, stats and maths department too, so we have quality course too.

I've commented on the strength of UTS business.

it seems to me that macq only offers 3 commerce/business related courses, these being b. commerce, b. economics, b. business admin. the other course listings just add "marketing, actuarials, etc" which just simply points out the major of the degree. whereas uts just has its "generic" b. business where you can major in finance, economics, management, marketing, etc, just like usyd/unsw b. commerce or b. economics.

no but remember, you are thinking of the unis which are better, think of the ones which are worse as well. mac is one of the top 4 unis in nsw, and regarded highly in the country

Aww poor thing. You're feeling down ay.

You commented on the strength of UTS by pumping its practicality, and saying stuff about how uts grads are extra prepared to start and have an edge. So dude, that trolling needed sorting out quick smart.

I agree with everyone else, the UTS degree is powerful degree, as is the macq ones and I'd pick it over any macq degree for some of the majors (macq doesn't offer some of the majors of uts and vice versa). But Macq is the pick for management.

And if you still don't understand, then you are the one who is "stupid".

It seems you say that like every couple of weeks clairegirl. lol. Not to worry...Macq's great, and its more about what you do in your time at uni than the uni itself.
