im thinking of doing a Marketing at uni.
to all that do it:
- what do you learn about?
- what do the assignments involve you doing? (eg. surveys etc.)
- do the assignments involve alot of group work?
- are there any cadetships or internships that you can do?

Marketing

They are just like normal assignments... the only difference is they are about marketing.

Most subjects will have at least 1 group assignment.

I have no idea.

you could check out my guide:

http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=161286

to answer your questions:
1) you learn about the things in my guide
2) assignments will involve you do a vast variety of things from developing marketing plans, to making ads, to conducting surveys, to critically analysing theories, etc etc.
3) Yes, there is a lot of group work in marketing, as marketing positions are teamwork based
4) There are penultimate (second-last) year internships that are available. However, they are very competitive. It is best finding work experience as you study

You can get a job in Marketing without Uni or TAFE, you usually don't need experience, you do the training and gain experience on the spot. Look at me, I'm doing casual as telemarketing Viagra while studying something that isn't related to Marketing.

My friend really wants to do Marketing.

But where is the best UNI for it?
Do the current students enjoy doing it?

And is it simliar to the HSC Marketing Topic in Business Studies?

I did business studies in HS, the marketing topic in that subject is a very brief overview of marketing in general. Its like a condensed version of a first year uni marketing subject, like marketing principles at usyd. It's just an introduction. But at uni you can pick units that do into a lot more depth.

Oh okay.

What year are you in now?

I spoke to my Manager and he said Marketing is very simple. And if you know the basics you can do it without fuss. (But he is very intelligent).

I loved business studies too. If you really love the marketing topic in business studies, than you will probably enjoy marketing at uni. Just be prepared for a lot more content.

I'm in third year Arts/Commerce at usyd. I think marketing is pretty simple too....but some people are better at it than others.

You will do well if you are comfortable talking in front of the class/making presentations, are somewhat an ideas person and can motivate yourself to study the theory (which I really love anyhow).

i guess i should have been a bit more clear when i said 'nothing is like business studies really'.

basically.. it will go a lot more indepth, and after first year it's quite... different

usually it's the first year subjects that put people off, as it seems very .. 'fundamental'. so if you hated it in HS, you might like it at uni. but if you enjoy the small portion in business studies, you may like it at uni.

USYD and UNSW are probably the best out of the larger unis in NSW at present (based on the people who I have witnessed being hired).

UNSW is great if you can get the co-op programme (better than usyd, imo) but USYD's general program is better than UNSW's currently. USYD has restructured its program and used industry partners to make sure the content is relevant. Further changes will be made in 2009, which will make the marketing major at USYD very sexy time.

Oh okay.

How is the workload?
And also, what sort of assessments and things do you have?
Like written responses, short answers?

your manager in what profession? marketing isn't that simple. A lot of people who haven't taken marketing, or don't work in brand management/marketing management make that assumption

the basics will give you an overview, but it goes a lot deeper than that. I should know, as I have actually worked in 'real' marketing positions (i.e. not telesales).

The workload for marketing is decent. You'll usually have one big group assignment, a presentation and an essay due each semester, plus tutorial participation and an exam.

As for assessments, I've already answered that question above. It's not high school: things aren't limited to written responses/short answers anymore
