I did the chemistry HSC today, and I think I got a band 6 in it. But I performed badly in trials and dropped ranks, and my rank was 8th. The top 4 will probably b6, but for the other 3 in front of me, only 1 of them did alright he thinks he'll b6 too, but the other 2 flopped their HSC badly (a fail). How badly will my overall marks be dragged down?

How many people are in your cohort, if there is quite a large number then it is possible that others (people ranked lower than you) performed better than the two people above you. So there is still chance to get a B6. However, a very bad performance throughout your whole will affect your score immensely.
