It's actually pretty easy for 1001. Read through the exercises on it in your 1001 book, it becomes easy if you just follow and comprehend those exercises.

A bit late but:

They are html codes:
They follow the format &name; where name=pi or radic, note that in the standard font pi= π, where as if you can be bothered to do the vB font change to times new roman you get π

Umm theres a list of common maths ones in the Maths Ext 2 forum under notation.

Its easy stuff once you know how you. Draw a triangle in the first quadrant, with θ the angle between the hypotenuse (R) and the x-axis.
Therefore y is positive, x is positive, R is always positive.

tan θ= y/x
sin θ= y/R
cos θ= x/R

In the second quadrant with a similar triangle,
x is negative, therefore from above tan θ will be negative, and cos θ will be negative.

In the third quadrant,
both are negative therefore only tan θ is positive (negative divided by negative)

In the fourth only y is negative therefore tan θ and sin θ are both negative. (thats where ASTC comes from which trig value is positive in which quadrant)

You just have to remember to only add subtract angles from 180o and 360o.

Not just that, and this can't really be helped, but there are only two past papers that are wholly relevant to the current course.

If you're screwed for chapter twelve, then don't bother studying for it now because it's probably too late. However for 1001, it shouldn't be too bad because they will tend to give you questions where you just apply already derived formulas straight away.

Just a summary incase you want to do chapter twelve:

Partial derivatives are used to find tangents of the horizontal and vertical (relating to x and y) axes components of a function z = (x,y). With directional derivatives, all you're doing is deriving a formula so you can find the tangent of ANY line (i.e any direction) which passes through a point of your choice (provided the function is differentiable at that point). With that said, just go into your 1001 book and memorise the few derived equations.

I'm totally screwed for MATH1902. Like totally.

I just had a look at the 2001, 2002 and 2003 exam questions, and theyre all so different. at least the math1002 exams are pretty much the same sorts of questions each year

oh yeah and my lecturer decided he would go through his own set of questions and didnt follow the 2003 exam. And He went through them so fast no one really understood or had time to write it down

i've never seen the multiple choice

and well, it depends on how you went in assignments and quizes

i got 18% of the possible 20% from our quizes and assignments
and if a pass is 55%, then i just need 37% to pass the course

so, if the exam is worth 80%, then i just need 29.6% if the exam and i pass the course

i hope that made sense

i think the multiple choice well test us on the theory side and the extended is the more 'maths' section

If you need 37% from 80% you need 37/80, 46.25% of the exam.
