Student Support Scheme
What is it?
The Student Support Scheme (SSS) provides a free mathematics drop-in centre service to struggling first year students at UNSW and is sponsored by the School of Mathematics. The SSS lives in room 209 of the Old Main Building (see the map below), which has been furnished with desks for the serious business of tutoring, and coffee facilities for the less serious business of lounging about. The centre is open 10:00-12:00 and 13:00-15:00, Monday to Thursday, from week 3 to Stuvac.
Which course?
In Session 1, 2005 anyone who is enrolled in any the following courses:
* MATH 1011 - General Mathematics 1B
* MATH 1031 - Mathematics for Life Sciences
* MATH 1131 - Mathematics 1A
* MATH 1141 - Higher Mathematics 1A
[EDIT: In practice we also do MATH 1151, since the material is virtually identical to that of MATH 1131/1141]
Who are the tutors?
All tutors are third / fourth year mathematics students at UNSW and are required to meet certain criteria before being allowed to become tutors.
Where is it?
The Student Support Scheme is located in room 209 of the Old Main Building.
(map available at http://www.maths.unsw.edu.au/students/current/help/sss.html - note that to get there you actually walk through the Department of Aviation)
