This maximum/minimum proboblem (of a parabola) is from 8E of the Y11 Cambridge 3U book (p298):

14. A Tasmanian orchardist notices that an apple tree will produce 300 apples per year if 16 trees are planted in every standard-sized field. For every additional tree planted in the standard-sized field, she finds that the yield per tree decreases by 10 apples per year.

a) If she plants an additional x trees in every standard-sized field, show that the total number of apples produced will be:

N = -10x2 + 140x + 4800

a) If she plants an additional x trees in every standard-sized field, show that the total number of apples produced will be:

N = -10x2 + 140x + 4800
Let number of trees = t= 16 + x
Let apples = a = 300 - 10x, as there is 10 less apples, per extra tree.

yield = t x a
= (300 - 10x) x (16 + x)
= 4800 + 300 x - 160 x - 10 x^2
= -10x^2 + 140 x + 4800 QED

^ Thanks a bunch :)
What does QED mean?
An abbreviation of the Latin phrase "quod erat demonstrandum". It literally translates as "which was to be demonstrated"

It's a latin acronym. I forget what the actual phrase is, but it translates into "which was to be demonstrated"
