we just had the half yearlies for maths. now the test was so surprisingly hard and since my teacher is an author didn't help either. i think i might've came 2nd with a approx mark of 22/45 what does this mean.

First of all, congratulations on coming second. The test was hard as you said so the mark itself is not a worry, coming second is an excellent achievement.

Your teacher is an author?

It must have been a hard test if you came second with that mark. Don't worry about it too much. A lot of people in my class failed and my teacher told us that this is a big wake up call for a lot of us. Don't be disappointed with your result as it's only the first assessment task and you have heaps of time to improve.

Ranks are way more an indicator of achievement. You could come last with 90% or 1st with 50%. Second in such a big ext class is a good achievement! That's doubly big as the ext class at my school.

Coming 1st with 50% should indicate things about the test, cohort and school lol..

It shows the test was found hard. Now if it actually was hard may be determined from school rank and what your cohort is like.
