Hey all,

Looking for uni preferences, I came across this course (at Newcastle Uni) and am interested in having it for my first preference, but before doing so I was wondering if there is anyone out there that can give me more info on it; i.e. pay, career opportunities, what the course is like e.t.c e.t.c.

One more question to add, is there much physics involved in the course, Thanks
Lots of phys

MRS is a broad stream, and u have to pick either diagnostic radiography or radiation therapy (there is no nuclear medicine next year). Each stream is very different to one another, eg radiography is less pt based and u spend about 5m with them, and rt and nm are more touchie-feeley because u build a relationship with them for weeks to months giving them treatment. To understand more about each stream, the UAC guide is pretty comprehensive. Pays range depending on hte stream, job oppotunity is best in radiography and least in nuclear medicine... that kinda thing try nswhealth or something.

This degree will qualify you as a radiographer or radiation therapist, depending on your specialisation.

I'm studying this in Queensland. I did two specialised physics courses in the first year (fairly difficult, harder than grade 12 at least). But the hardest units are anatomy.

Job prospects are extremely good in Queensland. Here, if you get your parchment, you will get a job. The unemployment rate for grads has been 0.00% for many years.

Pay is nothing special - before allowances and overtime, you start out mid $40k, and with automatic promotions you will reach mid $60k. The pay grade for senior (non-supervisory) radiographers hits $74k.

I've heard there are less vacancies in NSW, but their pay is higher.

The Queensland Health wages are increasing though...
