I'm interested in doing medicine at UNSW. Med/arts. And yeah I'm doing medentry too! lol

My subjects are:
4U English
3U Maths
3U History
2U Chemistry

I'm not big on the HSC science syllabi. But I do chem because I like it.

God, I hope I make it into med.

Hey there, just interested that you're doing Extension 2 English. I thought I'd be the only one here!

Really want to get into Bachelor of Arts (Advanced)(Hons)/MBBS at Usyd, unfortunately to UAI is ridiculously high. But I kicked butt in my first assessments so who knows?

Also interested in studying at Monash Uni... as of just then.

I'm doing work experience with a Paediatric doctor in April. Luckily my mum's a neonatal nurse so she has contacts. If I really enjoy that then I'll know that's what I want to do with my life, if not it's a Bachelor of Arts (Psych) for me!

Yeh, it's pretty much automatic your course advisor will prob let you go to Campbelltown in years 2 and 3 to do whatever.

Just found out that I can't defer uni until semester 2...that really sux...Would u know if medical science is offered in Semester 2? If so, I might as well apply again then, cos I really don't wanna wait another year!

u know i just realised.. that i think the etymological basis of hyster- (hysterikos) is that its greek for uterus or suffering within the uterus.. u being a girl makes it all the more relevant..

hysteria.. was thought to be due to a wondering womb in the 1800s

93 will still be very very hard.

Usyd is post-grad unless you get an offer if you obtain a 99.5+ results for B.Mus/MBBS, B Arts ADV/MBBS or 99.95+- for B Sci Adv/MBBS.

I was also doing Vietnamese continuers until recently when i dropped it b4 my half-yearlys . I know im crazy! i still don't know if i shud drop anutha subject what du thnk? im always cautious wen it comes to these thing =S. I want to do a combined degree of arts and medicine at Usdy or Unsw. I was also looking at doing medentry over the holidays but the costs is so crazy even with the group of 3 discount!!! Anyone else gna do it over the holidays?

i don't see anyone getting into med with a uai <98 tbh. Unless its post-grad, which is easier to get into, just have to pass the GAMSAT and not bomb the interview. Don't do Med Sci if you wanna do MBBS, you get the same skills needed for GAMSAT in BSc or BE Biomed you don't want to end up doing a job you hate becuz u didnt go well in GAMSAT or Interview. Or do the smart thing and realise that MBBS is probably the worst course ever imaginable and reject the offer once you thoroughly think through the commitment it requires.

Your wrong about that. You can get into JCU with as low as the high 80's, Monash with aslow as 93(this prob wont happen this year with the end of Umelbs undergrad intake), 93.8 which is the local cut off for UNE/UNCLE or 95 for others with umat and 93 for uws and 95 for non-locals for uws. Many people with <98uai/ter get into med.

Post-grad is harder to get into in the long run because everyone has a high degree of life experience and commitment towards getting in and thus increases the competition, especially within Gamsat scoring it's not a matter of passing you need minimum marks or percentiles so your compred against the cohort.

Doink has a point. Fucking 5-7 years of study, followed by an additional 3+ years of specialist training, then what? Stand in the operating room for 40 years until all respect is lost - death occurs due to clots in the legs which eventually traveled to the heart.
The idea of doing it kinda inspires you travel to Amsterdam, smoke lots of marijuana, and have sexual intercourse with every hooker in the red light district.
fk idk maybe a year off before the MBBS is ideal.

I got into undergrad med with a UAI of less than 98. I know several others who did too.

Also, graduate entry (not 'post-grad', theres a difference) is not easier to get into than undergrad med.

Just thought id point that out.

Not having a shot at you or anything, but just wondering how would you know whether graduate or undergraduate medicine is harder to get into? Do you have any evidence i.e. passed experiences/other people's experiences/data?

I am not completly sure but...

Seeing as there are less graduate places than undergraduate places (i'm not 100% sure about this) would entry not be harder?

and I'm presuming it would be harder because you have to keep up a good GPA throughout like 3-5 years of tertiary study.

I i have heard from a friend that the GAMSAT is harder because you need some kind of scientific knowledge before hand, whilst UMAT is basically an IQ test. ironically this friend did get into Graduate medicine without doing a science bachelors degree before, he just studied some stuff.

Dont worry, i get that you arent attacking me

I personally havent gone through botth processes (only one!) but Ive heard from other peoples experience, and a few other factors.

Its basically what Siddharthlaha said, but adding to that, there is also the fact that for grad med you can only get ONE interview in the yr you apply, unlike for undegrad where you can get as many as you qualify for.

Also, apparently of the people who try out for grad med there is a higher proportion of people who are serious about doing med, rather than are just trying out because they got a UAI of 99.95 and dont know what to do with it.

Im not saying grad is harder, i personally believe they both have positives and negatives and its impossible to say which is harder/easier definitively, but i was just trying to stress they are both extremely difficult, and that grad isnt an 'easy option'.
