I'm not sure if this is a territorial gain, but Korea gained independence from the Sino Japanese War (Japan's interests in Korea were recognised with the Treaty of Portsmouth).

Also, Japan gained the southern part of Sakhalin Island, Taiwan, Pescadores Islands and the Liaotung Peninsula. There was the Triple Intervention which meant it had to give up the rights to the Liaotung Peninsula to Russia (but it was eventually taken back with the Russo Japanese War).

Imperial Japan undertook massive colonial expansion at the beginning of the 20th century. Here are some i can think of:
  • Korea (occupied in Sino-Japanese War 1895, annexed 1910)
  • Formosa (annexed after Sino-Japanese War 1895)
  • Port Arthur and Liaotung Peninsula (territory ceded after Russo-Japanese War 1905)
  • Southern Sakhalin (Karafuto) - annexed 1905
  • Northern Kuril Islands - annexed 1905
  • Tsingtao (captured from Germans 1914-1923)
Hope this helps!
