Write it out four times, under timed conditions. That's what it takes for word for word memory (me). Normally, I just read over it and expand on important parts during the exam where the marks are more centered on.

If it's an english essay then 2-3 hours for short term
Repeat that for 2 - 4 days if you want to 100% memorise it

i just write it out like 4 times timing myself. you are able to remember it and you end up training under timed conditions which improves your writing speed

If you really concentrate and absorb what you read you can memorise in less than 2-3 hours, and to consolidate what's in your head write it out 1-2 times

But ideally DON'T wait to the night before/ wake up really early morning of (thats me!) to memorise, start reading your essay weeks out from your exam and it won't be hard at all

Exacly, good point there, mate.

I colour code my essays, I can't stress this enough- color code all your quotes in the Essay and use different color for your techniques. Just like I did my Atar below and then I look at it in bed for about 4 hours.

reading it out aloud may also help. Colour coding also works for memorising formula!!

Yeah colour coding helps - for once Omed is helpful.

Also, if you know your essay well enough and have refined it throughout the term/week, you already "know" it so it really only takes 2-3 hours max. to get little details right and memorise it down to the word.

Agreed - a lot of it depends on how familiar you are with the response. Generally speaking, if I have recently written an essay, it takes me about an hour to memorise it sentence by sentence and about two to have it down really tight (this is for a 1,000 word response). For the few I have done in uni, a sentence for sentence memorisation was sufficient.

Also, the more experience you have with memorising the better you are at it - in Year 10, it took me around 3 or 4 hours just to learn 400 words worth. By the end of year 12 I could do 1,000 words in about an hour (which has stayed the same since, because I dont really do memorised response nearly as much anymore).
