I have chosen metamorphosis as my related text for the belonging area of study.

Does anyone have any notes or useful analysis on this novella?

I've got to do a speech on it, and need a bit of help to start off.

How is a sense a belonging affected by an understanfing of self and relationships with society and the wider world?

What are some main ideas and techniques represented?

Thanks :spin:

Sorry, I haven't got notes or anything but I have to commend you for your wonderful choice of related text! The whole thing's clearly a metaphor and if you go into the background of Kafka you kind of learn how disturbing and alienated his personal life was which is really comparable to what happens in the text.

However, my teacher told me that we're not allowed to write about the author's life in any way
We're meant to focus on language forms and features :/

That surprises me considering writing an essay for the prescribed Romulus, My Father is entirely based off the author's life, but then again the book is a memoir while Metamorphosis is absurdist fiction. If I had written an essay using it, I would definitely have tied it back to the author's life. Not make is central to the essay, but as a little addition to the analysis on language forms and features. In any case, the you can still sneakily apply the whole 'metaphor of the transformation into a bug' thing to the protagongist in the story :haha: though that protagonist is actually Kafka himself.
