With these numbers, it has to be Baulko, right?

i knew it. i was thinking the same thing. I thought ruse first but they have 96 in MX2

as for the atars they're both looking at 96-97+ (easily) with maybe a difference of 1.5 between them

Assuming it is Baulkham Hills:

A:
English Adv: 96 scaling to 95
English Ext: 96 scaling to 92.5 (but only 1 unit)
Maths Ext 1: 94 scaling to 91.5
Maths Ext 2: 92 scaling to 92.5
Chemistry: 93 scaling to 90
Economics: 92 scaling to 89

One unit of Economics not counted.
Aggregate: 460
Corresponding ATAR: 99.55

B:
English Adv: 94 scaling to 91
Maths Ext 1: 96 scaling to 94
Maths Ext 2: 94 scaling to 94.5
Chemistry: 95 scaling to 94
Economics: 89 scaling to 84
Latin Cont: No idea

Assuming Economics doesn't count, here are estimates based on two different scaled marks for Latin (I don't know how Latin scales):
90: Aggregate 463.5; ATAR 99.65
97: Aggregate 470.5; ATAR 99.80

Yep good detective skills on figuring out its baulko. Braintic thanks for the comprehensive estimates. I thought they would both get 99+ and then squareroot says 96 - 97 and i'm like really?? Surely 99+. Thanks braintic. Actually if you could could you do the same for my ranks, one sec.

Here it is

english advanced = 60/200
maths 3U = 3/178
maths 4U = 7/109
latin 2U = 3/25
physics = 15/119
economics = 7/121 (accelerated it so already got it done = 97 overall = state rank yay. Lol but only 99 in external saved me. Otherwise would have got below 95 defs)

I did ask for an estimate on another section of the forum. But that was before hys so these are more accurate ideas of where i stand in the grade. So people besides braintic can give their ooinion/estimate.

Thanks for your time guys. :) :D

Ranks right at the very top are hard to estimate ... I'm deliberately staying away from giving you 100 or 99.

English Adv: 92 scaling to 89
Maths Ext 1: 98 scaling to 97
Maths Ext 2: 97 scaling to 97
Physics: 94 scaling to 92
Economics: 97 in the bag, scaling to 96
Latin: Same problem as previously.

Starting by assuming that Latin doesn't count:
Aggregate: 471
Corresponding ATAR: 99.80

Getting 93+ scaled for Latin will send Physics to the scrap heap.
If you get a scaled mark of about 97/98 for Latin, I have you getting 99.95

Alternatively, improve your ability to BS and get that English mark up.
But BSing doesn't come easy to those of us who have logical minds.

Hey Braintic,

thanks heaps buddy for that. yep I'm equally concerned about latin. we've had the same teacher for it from year 7 to 12 (the only one at our school), she's great though and teaches amazingly. but only she has marked all our exams from 7 to 12, and since she is so busy, she doesn't mark HSC. :/ so I have no idea how I or my class will go in hsc and get marked more harshly or leniently. really anxious bout it. especially cos she has had classes over time who have had variant results, and also usually classes have been 7 max. and this year we've expanded to 21. so :/

discarding latin, to what rank in English approx. would you reckon I need to improve to be in serious contention for .95? or could .95 be done through the other subjects??

thanks! :D

You could be in serious contention right now. Don't forget that I had to do some estimating to get these figures, and if all those estimates were off in the same direction, then you might already on target for 99.95. But if you really need a target rank for English, I think you could probably work that out yourself based on the estimates I have given for your friends.

The aggregate required for 99.95 is roughly 477.

that means essentially for English, I need to get into top 15. which is really unlikely for me. hmmm. okay thanks for the help.

You should have some idea of what Latin HSC mark your rank represents from previous years, just ask your seniors. In Japanese typically our school's top mark would be 96... but in my year we had a state ranking so I got pulled up :D... (not really my externals was the same) so if you're third it might look like 94-95ish depending on those above you.

As for English, I know that most of the 99.95s have scored at least 94 for English overall... so you need to ask around to see what rank that mark equates to... maybe for Baulko 25-35/200 for English? But honestly to be save aim for 95... because 94 is fully stretching it... you'll need beast marks in physics/latin to compensate for that 1 mark in English.

but, cadd1ct, I did say "especially cos she has had classes over time who have had variant results" - so some years its been everyone band 6, some it hasn't at all with no band 6s. and the highest obtained in the hSC class ranges from like 95 to 88. etc.

then what?? how can I make an estimate on such variation??
