what does native english speaker have to do with anything? i don't think, they are, on average, better than non-native speakers who've lived for 10+ years...

Accent, better knowledege of colloquialisms, lots of things...

I know I'd rather have a native speaker to help me with a foreign language.

Also, most non-native speakers who have been here that long, even born here (well, at least whom I have been exposed to), tend to make mistakes in grammar and such particular to their native language background.

As I said, "from what I have been exposed to."

I know there are probably many, MANY exceptions to this.

My experiences may even BE the exception.

Dennis, you're always the bloody exception to the rule anyway! :p
