Need help deciding Uni..plz people with uni EXP (1 Viewer)

Hey i was just wondering on which uni i should go to, now that i have a little bit of increased choices with my UAI of 97.05.
Initially i was going to go to Macq Uni for the double degree in Bcomm/Blaws which needs a UAI, i think is about 96, but i heard from a friend that internal transfer in that Uni is very easy, and so i thought that this would be a waste of my UAI points, since any dumb person can just choose an Arts degree and do well in it and then have a chance to transfer. WHAT A JOKE!
Then i considered my choices of B. Comm at both sydney and UNSW, and i really dont know what to pick????ANY OPINIONS HERE????
BuT just recently i am thinking about B Commerce (international) which needs a UAI of 97, and plus this requires 1 year away to asian studies, and thus i also want to perfect my manderin etcetc since it is getting very universal etcetc.....

so yeh, i am not too sure.....
I dont really have a SET interest, but commerce is my mainstream idea i guess, but if u guys have any suggestions as to what else i should consider i will take it on board. In the future i just want to have a job that gives me a good pay rate...
My mum told me she wants me to be a doctor, but i cant do it since i havent done UMAT and also my UAI wont get me in so yeh, then she says how about a pharmacist? But i had no clue......

I have a few things to say,

1) Do commerce (B International)

2) At UNSW (We have a better choice of majors than USYD)

3) Ignore your mother as becoming a doctor means 5-6 years of undergrad study, another 2 or so years as an intern and then however many years afterwards to actually be able to specialise in a particular field... On top of that, you never did UMAT/interview to even qualify in the first place.

4) Please do not choose a degree on the sole basis of your UAI and its entry requirement... You're not wasting anything... It's university and nobody is going to care less what degree you actually decide to do. If that's the case, then pick a degree (or combination) that has a balance of employability and enjoyability.

i'd split your choice somewhat 50/50 between what you enjoy doing and what is practical in the future (ie delivers you a decent income after uni.

For me, I enjoy studying psychology, but I'm also pretty decent with computers as well. I decided to to comp sci while taking up a science major in psyc so I could have it both ways, and decide what I really want to become when the time is right.

I have done a lot of thinking and decided that my first preferene would be B Commerce (international) in UNSW, i am not sure whether to major in actuarial studies, cos i heard my friend say u need to do a lot of integration by parts, is the course REALLY 4U maths based, for eg questions that need complicated intergration by parts, or do u just need to know HOW TO intergrate by parts with relatively easy questions, cos i can perservere through easy questions since i now what to do, but if the course REALLY does involve questions that just knock ur head off then i wont do it...??so any ideas

as for doing law/doctor etc....i have decided that i really dont have an interest, and law, your personality has to be very open and talkative if u know what i mean, so yeh, i dont think i will fit in that catergory......

Acturial studies is a lot harder than just 'integrate by parts'. You have to work very hard from the beginning (for most people).

To that Danyan kid - become a male prostitute, they make a lot of money quickly.

Also, I'm pretty sure options/derivs TRADERS still make plenty of bank >_>

I'm really starting to question now whether you can make a decision on your own without the opinions of anonymous, random people on an internet forum....

Look, Sydney Uni is a great uni and it has a lot of good degrees to study there. However, UNSW is KNOWN for its commerce/economics degrees both here and overseas... I would know personally being as my father did commerce at UNSW too and now currently works for an international bank in Asia. It doesn't really matter in terms of rankings which uni is better to you... University rankings take into account a lot of things about each uni such as R&D, graduating salaries, etc (a lot of personally irrelevant bullshit statistics) but whats more important is your own specific degree...

As for law (I don't do it), its quite tough. If you're not white and not male, then you'll have a lot of glass ceilings in front of you and on top of that, you're gonna constantly have to shit all over everyone elses opinion to get anywhere. Also keep in mind that you'll develop a lovely taste for arse-kissing old white men later on. If you don't understand any of this, don't worry... hahaha....

And finally in regards to actuarial, I know there is some unsw actuarial people on this forum who can explain the sort of maths they do. But from what I know, they do a lot of minor programming and the sort of maths you'd use when engaging in risk management or insurance and the like.

Do B commerce (international studies) at UNSW and you can't go wrong.
