Well ... im assuming that anyhow.

THIS computer i am on now cannot (through network naeighbourhood) open the folders on the other comp. Two important things to note:
- before i did Internet cable sharing a month ago this worked
- from the other computer i can still open the files on this computer.

Im sure there is some simple answer ... anyone know it?

1. Make sure both pc's are turned on
2. Make sure both have xp firewall disabled
3. Make sure both are using the same TCP/IP settings..

Then it should be smooth sailing

It prevents your PC from being visible on the network.

ur not ALWAYS connected.
see that wire that goes from ur router/switch to ur modem? PULL IT OUT. You're no longer connected.

I dunno how to turn off XP firewall, never used it...
sorry, me use Win2k

ping:

Start > Run
type in 'cmd'
then when the DOS window comes up:
type in 'ping <other computer IP address>'

eg. if i was trying to ping the other computer connected to me with the IP of 192.168.0.2

i would type in:
ping 192.168.0.2

Start > Run
type in cmd
in the command prompt, type in 'ipconfig' to find out ur IP address.

Right Click on My Network Places, go to properties, you should see your LAN connection, the icon should have this little Pad-lock looking icon, indicating firewall is on, right click on it and go to Properties, it should be the last tab called Advance, and you do the one sentence reading :p

But the description of this forum says for the L337 Only... So if you don't understand what was explained to you, you shouldn't be posting in here :D

To Lord Ac:

And about the LAN firewall.. are you using a P2P connection or do you have a hub/switch/router... etc? I don't think you can turn off the XP firewall with a P2P connection ---> Also, I don't think the XP firewall would prevent you from sharing your internet, too (maybe I'm wrong on this) but yeah, if your connection is shared, you should have a hand thing under yourInternet Connection make sure that's there

A P2P connection? In a home network??

Not having a hub/switch/router doesn't make it a P2P network.
