New Uni Courses with No ATAR Specified (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know how universities go about selecting students when a course is new and there is no set ATAR/UAI for it?

It depends on the supply and demand.
Just like all other the courses, they'll just take in those with the top atars, and then the person with the lowest atar that gets in becomes the cut-off for next year.

yeah they just take the applicants with the highest ATAR's pretty much all the ATARs shown are last years cut off they can not determine a cut off because they do not know demand and who has applied and there has been no cut offs yet

You should be able to compare it to entry cut-offs for similar degrees.

Some rules of thumb regarding prediction: courses with better career prospects (read: income/employment) will generally have higher cut-offs. Likewise, courses at perceived top universities (Usyd and to a lesser extent UNSW/UTS) will tend to have higher cut-offs, as well as degrees which are trendy/catchy, say Bachelor of 'Global Studies' or 'Psychology' or 'Journalism' (versus generic counterparts like BA, BSc).
