What sort of techniques can there be in a newspaper article?

Visual and Language both.

Newspapers have headings / titles and may also have pictures. Hence, visual techniques include:

- Images
- Layout
- Font size (emphasis placed on something in particular i.e. headings)
- Font style
- Double spacing
- Horizontal print
- Vertical print

As for the content of the newslatter, Language techniques may include:

- Word choice
- Imagery (similes)
- Humour
- Captions
- Point of View
- Tense
- Adjectives
- Rhetorical Questions
- Statistics
- Informative
- Sentence structure

There's plenty more, can't be bothered typing them all.
