Brain parts.

Here is my quick summary of insects/fish/mammals

Production of sound

Insects> fiction on hind legs or veins together on forewings
Bats> ultrasounds from larynx
Fish> vibrate swim bladder

Detection of sound

Insects> Tympanic membranes (mechano receptors)
Mammals>Cochlea/hair cells
Fish> Lateral line system(neuromasts>brain), internal ear (semi circular canals/labrinyth/ Sound goes through skeleton)

The HSC CSU online communication section is surprisingly detailed I think, so check that out.

rods-b&w, low light, all over retina
cones-colour, conc in fovea, only work well in bright light
rhodopsin-pigment in rods?

ok so visual centre is at front of brain?
fuck
the notes from our dissection have everything all over the place and we had it at the back... oops....

The visual area should be at the back.

That diagram is a little misleading. Probably 'cause the cerebellum is missing. (Unless it's completely wrong and it's meant to be on the other side)

wikipedia visual cortex, excel book always say back I'm 100% sure that's right. The diagram of the brain on HSC CSU online is just missing the cerebellum I think so it looks like it is the wrong way around.

forgot bout function... do we need to know that?
cerebellum is skill memory
cerbrum is almost everything, like thought, interpretation of signals and whatever
and medulla is autonomic functions like breathing, blood pressure and relays signals from brain to spinal cord

Medulla Oblongata = Basic functions, breathing, blood pressure

Cerebrum = Everything else basically, thought, speech, visual etc..

Cerebellum = Muscle movement/balance etc. - Important if we get a question on co-ordination of nerves and stuff (you can also use other functions too like sight but still)

Going to school1 Good Luk!
