Minus 0.1, since 7.14 is what he jumped and 7.14-0.1 will be the requirement.

Who got it from Babatunde Olatunji, I believe.

Well, according to my google search on the quote anyway, most likely wrong because someone named 'Linda' also laid claim to the quote.

There were seven sections, each worth about 12 marks.

I doubt its the same exam, our school sets its own exams.

hrm...
are you people sure?
because i got 7.3428571428571428571428571428571m
...
or 7.34m (2 d.p.)

since
0.3=4.2% of original jump..
so
original jump=0.3/4.2*100
therefore needed distance = (0.3/4.2*100)+0.2m

?

No.

0.3/4.2*100 is the athlete's qualifying jump (the one he did to beat the requirement by 0.1m)

Same we had even sections owrth 12 mars each and it added to 84 marks total.

Was their a four mark question with something like 6x^2-3x find the eqaution of the normal at point x=-1?

Yep, we had that too. I think what teachers do is select random questions from past papers that are relevant in each topic.

To the question you mentioned, you had to differentiate 6x²-3x, sub x=-1, find the gradent of the tangent, giving you the gradient of the normal (m1xm2 = -1), then subbing the point into the normal to find the equation.

If that sounds all w-t-f like, ask me for an explanation if you want one.

hrmm..
are you sure?
because if i use my answer and work backwards its still ok..

assuming you were right then
0.3/4.2*100=qualifying jump
= 7.1428571428571428571428571428571

now, if we subtract 0.3 it would be original jump right?
= 6.8428571428571428571428571428571
if this was the original jump, and we add on to it an extra 4.2% of itself, it must equal to "7.1428571428571428571428571428571" to be correct
6.8428571428571428571428571428571*104.2%
=7.1302571428571428571428571428571

therefore you are wrong unless i made a mistake somewhere? >_<

You might be right. I can't see what's wrong with my working though, but if your backwards-checking is correct, then I made a mistake somewhere.

i might be able to explain why you are wrong, its probably just because you are confused because the question is retarded T_T"
anyway
you think 0.3/4.2*100 is the qualifying jump because it says 0.3=4.2%. But the 4.2% is the 4.2% of the original jump..does this help you at all? ><

Yeah, I think that works. Damnit.

He increases his original jump by 4.2%. Bleh, hopefully I'll get 2/3 marks or something.

Not including all the other questions I skipped and got wrong.

Im really nervous now.
