What and where is the "University Gardens", are they apartments or something? And how much are they charging you?

Hey after much thought I dont think that it will be too bad at the UNI Gardens. I will post up there info they sent me..... did anyone else get it?

Thank you for your patience.
As advised by Professor Elizabeth Deane, the extraordinary pressure on residential accommodation has meant that the University has needed to source additional capacity at off-campus locations to accommodate incoming students.
Students residing at University Gardens will be supported by two Residential Advisers and affiliated with Unilodge. The Residential Advisers will provide pastoral support and the University will deliver a campus program to ensure that residents are welcomed and supported. We assure you that students residing at University Gardens will have the same pastoral structure and access to residential life experiences as is available in all of our student residences. The cost will be no more than the tariffs for a standard room in our Halls of Residence.
Your accommodation offer is now detailed below:
Location
University Gardens, located at 19 Hennessy St, Belconnen, is approximately five kms from the ANU campus, and is a single bus ride or a half hour cycle on a path way. The ANU community on this site will number 108.
Facility
These new 33 sqm studios are offered on a twin share basis, each having their own ensuite bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen contains a small fridge, a cooktop and microwave. The furniture provided comprises two twin beds, two lounge chairs, 2 study desks with data access, and a flat screen TV with Foxtel access. These units are in a secure building – all residents are students. Photos of the facility can be found at http://accom.anu.edu.au/UAS/2357.
What to Bring
You will need to bring your own linen (mattress protector, sheets, doona, pillows, towels and tea towels) or these can be purchased on site as a pack, priced at $160. A kitchen utensils pack is available, at a cost of $125, or you may prefer to visit Belconnen Mall, which is within walking distance, to make the necessary purchases.
Parking /Transport
There is limited dedicated parking available at $50 per week. Adjacent street parking is regulated but generally available. Caged bicycle storage is available free of charge, but you are advised to bring your own bike lock. Students will be provided with monthly bus passes.

What Does it Cost?
Weekly charges:
      • Rent- $163 (includes utilities, IP data connection and Foxtel/TV access.
      • Data Usage – Plans are available starting at $1 per GB per month ie $10 for 10 GB per month. There is no wireless access in these buildings.
      • Laundry – a coin-op laundry is situated on site.
Acceptance Fees:
On the formal acceptance of your offer, you will be required to pay an acceptance fee of $1,166. This fee consists of:
      • Registration Fee - $230
      • Residents’ Committee Fee - $50
      • Cleaning fee - $60 (this covers a professional clean when the unit is vacated). All financial transactions, with the exception of personal fees 9 data usage, laundry and parking) are payable to ANU. Personal fees are paid on site.
      • Refundable deposit - $500
      • 2 weeks rent in advance - $326
Contract Period
The commencement date for the contracts will be 13th February 2010 and the unit must be vacated on or before Sunday 28th November 2010. As vacancies become available students in our off-campus accommodation will be transferred to on-campus accommodation. Whilst this may not occur until Semester 2, certainly all will be allocated places in 2011.

How to Accept Your Offer
    1. Reply to this email by 9am (AEDT) Monday, 8th February 2010 to advise if you intend to accept your offer.
N.B. Only one offer of accommodation is made to each student. If you do not accept this offer your application will not be reconsidered.
    2. If you confirm that you intend to accept, a formal offer will be emailed to you.
    3. You will then have 48 hours in which to complete the online acceptance and pay your acceptance fees.

Nah I dont think it will be too bad maybe just a bit different. There is no where to socialise though which annoys me because how will I make new friends Then again atleast it's new and clean, and I'm not stressing out about it anymore, I have somewhere to stay!

Good Luck everyone! If you find out what you get please tell me :)

You will make friends, because the building will be full of first years and they'll all mix because no one wants to sit in their room by themselves for too long. I'm still waiting... patiently

The furnishing at University Gardens looks really good (and new!). The only thing I dislike is how the study desks are placed together. $163 all utilities paid is reasonable. However 5km is quite far for campus accommodation. I prefer this to Unilodge because you don't pay rent all year round.

Chin up, it looks like a great place :p Hope you have a great roommate.

Yeeeeah that's quite a big downside. Sharing a room! I suppose whoever I end up we'll have to agree on some rules :p

Other than that, accomodation, yay!

Ditto on the rejects. We should band together - the difference between us and UniLodge is we're a bunch of rejected firsties, basically all in the same boat.

You know what, I really hope they attempt to put people from the same courses/faculty together. If you're sharing a room with someone, how's one person freaking out and the other chilling before assignments and stuff gonna work?

Ginger did you get this accomm aswell?
Yeah I did. My parents (bless their overprotective hearts) were freaking out about me living somewhere big and scary and far away ( :p) but the map is like ACT FEDERAL POLICE DEPT right across the road. Plus, hey, Belconnen - nice area, I've heard.

I suppose you'd need to organise your time then - coordinate with the bus timetable and stuff.

Hahaha ditto - I don't mind if they don't study, as long as they're not inconsiderate when I'm studying.
