I know this isn't the word you want to hear but you could always repeat Year12- it is stupid to presume you didn't try, but I would say you might not be as academically inclined as others... anyhow, the point is that there are other ways to get into your chosen career path- I'm no expert on it, but I'm pretty sure that whilst UAI is probably the main way people get in, there are definitely other routes. You should try asking your school's career advisor, or looking around on these forums for help. All the best.

Cheers.

that's a bit harsh don't you think. not everyone is smart enough to get high excellent marks.

anyhow, i hope 'you+me=happy' gets into nursing...don't worry mate, its not the end of the world, you can get in through other ways too, don't pull yourself apart over it. the stupid hsc is overrated, think of it that way.

I bet you're thinking "if I just pushed myself a little bit harder..." and perhaps regretting wasting time during year 12 (I'm not saying this because of your UAI - everybody wastes time).

I hope you can learn from this crappy experience, so you don't make the same mistake in future.

So good luck with getting into nursing, and remember that even if you don't, it's not all over for you. There are alternatives.

True, lol that is abit harsh! I mean, some people can study alot and still get bad results, and vice versa.

Though, I'm not sure if u ever went to the Nursing expo thingy held this year, they run alot of programs, try it out! [such as Nursing Agents] Otherwise, have a look at tafe! :)

Good luck mate! I'm sure u can get into it!

The more timeyou spend bitching about "if only", the less time you go out there doing anything important.

Why UWS campelltown? I'm not knowledgable about these things, but aren't there other places where u can do nursing? Granted, they mightn't be as convenient but... well... beggars can't be choosers.

For the moment, pray hard. If that doesn't work, switch religions :D.

Marks in the 70's generally equates to a 60's UAI. UAI represents a rank, not a score, and marks in the 70's don't mean UAI's in the 70's. Marks in the low 80's represents a UAI in the 70's.

If you don't get in there is always the option of doing a Nursing Diploma or Certificate IV at TAFE or so on to get into Nursing with credit at UTS or UWS. In fact many say that Nursing is at some points better at TAFE than at university, plus it'll mean your first year or so is cheaper.

And Open Universities Australia has a Bachelor in Nursing that has no UAI requirements, though its by correspondence. This still means though that you could transfer after two semesters of study.

And this of course is only if the cut-offs don't fall first, so there is still a future in nursing at uni for you - don't fret.:)

My cousin got a uai below 50 and he is a nurse now. He went through tafe and is working in a hospital.

Best of luck.

^ :uhhuh: I agree with Kami esp with a RET of 60, the cut of may in fact drop, or the course may have vacancies, which means you may recieve and offer on the later rounds! There are also other unis, TAFE (and i'm sure you get credit for some of the units you do in tafe) mature age entry (esp if you do some kind of volunteer work or paid work which gains you some experience) which can help you get in.

It is not all over, don't fret esp looking last years cut offs, they can drop esp in Nursing which has a shortage I believe. Aim for the course you want but if not have a plan B, look at all the pathways suggested in this thread and see which one suits you and with that in mind aim for what you truly want and if you don't make it you will still have a back up plan!

In the end I think determination and passion can get you a lot further than you think. Good luck :)

Imagine being looked after in a hospital by nurses who are so dumb.

I knew that nursing is unpopular, but surely there should be some standards in the interest of public safety.
Stop being an up yourself wanker. Get off your high horse, you snob! The cut - offs are based upon demand only.

UWS cutoffs generally don't fall below 60. If you can't get into nursing (incase it does rise) there are heaps of other courses that have cut offs of 60, so have a look around UAC and see what courses there are, get an above credit average and transfer internally. It will guarantee you a spot in nursing. Good luck :)
