"The equation of the normal to the curve [y = x^3 - 4x] at the point (1,-3) is:"

A) y = x + 4
B) y = x - 4
C) y = -x + 2
D) y = -x - 2

N/A
y'= 3x^2 - 4 = 3(1^2) - 4 = -1 at x=1

.: gradient of normal there is +1

.: Eqn of normal is: y-(-3) = 1(x-1)

i.e. y = x-4
