But it is related

What is everyones motive for x ATAR? Parents? Status?

For me, it is so that I can successfully get in any uni course I have been interested in (also I sort of want to beat my sister who got 95)

What's yours ?

Uni course, passion and a sense of achievement - 12 years of schooling :)

true. Once you have done 12 years of school you want to be able to say I did well and got 88 or 94 instead of I got 48

It's all me, my academic goals are always solely my own.

It's mainly a personal achievement thing, but also to get into my course.

Only for about 3 months after finishing the HSC.

After you start university, you won't give a shit.

I want to have a greater sense of personal achievement. I would be very annoyed if I got an ATAR of 80 when I know I could have gotten 90.

Testing my own limits and partially to keep my options open.

Though most people are somewhat fazed by social stigma not getting a "good" atar.

1. I am a very competitive person so I always want to be THE best - this pushes me to try and beat every other student in every assessment or exam.
2. I want to get in to a good course that I like and have some passion for (MBBS or BSc (Advanced)).
3. I want to beat relatives and siblings (currently need to beat 94.65).
4. I want a university scholarship to help me pay the fees.

This, once you start uni, the HSC seems so insignificant. Also, the great feeling of reaching your goal only lasts a week or so (or at least it did for me). The pride part of getting a great ATAR is overrated.

+ 1,000,000

Seriously, it's temporary pride and satisfaction. It felt getting a good ATAR, but once uni hits - it's completely a different field, different expectations etc. The ATAR is there really just for course requirements.

Unfortunately, many people seem to believe that the higher the ATAR, the more likely they can acquire a girlfriend.

Unfortunate for them, but very funny for everybody else.
