This is a wonderful example of democracy in action, I am proud to live in such a democratic country that aims to reduce violence so I can be much safer at night in the city.

According to several credible reports, the NSW Government is planning to restrict dancing to specially designated “entertainment zones” after 1am. These zones will be contained solely within The Star casino and the new Crown complex at Barangaroo. See below. While the plans on how to enforce these laws has not been revealed, council officers will reportedly issue infringement notices to patrons moving at “an unacceptably frivolous gait“. The proposed laws are slated for parliamentary debate on May 21.

The proposed restrictions around dancing will go hand in hand with lockout laws already implemented to keep Sydney safe. “We want a vibrant city and we want a safe city,” the spokesperson said. “By bringing our nightlife and entertainment service providers together in specially equipped spaces we can help to ensure that all Sydneysiders and our international visitors get the safe and vibrant cultural experience they deserve.”

Home nightclub has responded with
"Sydney is getting more and more depressing...
We look forward to spending early mornings with you all standing on our *soon to be renamed* dance floor moving appropriately."

Due to circumstances beyond our control, and for reasons associated with recent changes in the NSW State Government 'Lock Out Laws’, we regret to inform customers that our Darlinghurst and Surry Hills stores are now unable to trade past 7pm.
The current lock-out laws imposed on Sydney's licensed venues has resulted in a marked increase in foot traffic at both our Darlinghurst and Surry Hills stores, as consumers seek alternative late night entertainment venues outside of clubs/pubs.
An unforeseen consequence of this has been an increase in what police have described as 'frequent antisocial behaviour and overly loud, repetitive music in close proximity to Messina stores’. This increased foot traffic, combined with our existing store queues has made the situation untenable and we have been threatened with fines and potential legal action by council. We have attempted to engage in meaningful discussion with council, licensing police and all relevant stake holders but have failed to find common ground. As such, we are being forced to comply with new trading restrictions until further notice.
The trading hours for these stores will now be 11am - 7pm daily. Any delivery services will now also cease at this time.
*All other stores will continue to operate as normal, with The Star store being granted an exemption for late night trading inline with existing casino hours (what do you know?!)
** Melbourne stores are not affected
We will continue to fight these ludicrous restrictions and fight these laws which are killing the soul of our city and bring back our normal trading hours as soon as we can. Until then, enjoy some early evening, sensible time, gelato.

rip security jobs :c

after lock out laws came into place, on average, the violence went down moderately. but at tier 1 venues it hasn't changed one bit except violence has went up.

imo what they should do is remove this stupid 1:30 lock out (mainly for the benefit of my job lel) and instead enforce better license conditions for the venues like no glass after 10pm, remove soi people earlier, have more rsa marshalls etc.

Omg square you should really make a brief submission to the independent review of the lockouts. Since you have lots of first hand experience of the effects of the lockouts across multiple venues, I reckon your opinions and recommendations would be weighted quite heavily (deadline is soon on April 4th!)

Is it wrong that I actually agree with some form of lock out law being implemented (but not the one presently)...

Licenced venues have been flouting the laws relating to serving alcohol to intoxicated patrons for decades, personally, I have no sympathy for a venue that has complete discontent towards a persons lack of self control...

What licensed venues have you been to? All the ones I go to enforce the laws quite strictly (sometimes to the point of overkill).

The law is pretty clear... Do not serve intoxicated patrons... The fact that some people walk out of venues in a drunken stooper is quite telling...

What venues have you actually been to? I hardly see this at all.

Usually the ones who 'walk out of venues in a drunken stooper' are the ones who get kicked out...they are fine to begin with, their friends do rounds to buy them drinks then security sees they've had too much and kicks them out. As far as I'm concerned most venues in the city (at least the ones I've been to) are quite strict when it comes to RSA.

Even then, let's just say there were venues that were supposedly flouting the RSA laws (which I personally don't think there are many of), the lockout laws don't exactly stop that practice. Also, even if your venue has a clean record of mitigating alcohol related violence you're still subjected to the laws which screw your business over.
