Just would like to know if anyone is at or finished the policing course at goulborn for employment with the nsw police. I would like to know how long the process usually takes once applie to be accepted into the course, and once in the course are you usually offered a job at the end of it???????

It's 18 months training then 12 months probation and yes you do get a job straight away. However don't become a cop for the following reasons.

1. Shit pay
2. Nobody likes you
3. Worst shifts ever when you start
4. Your personal life is no longer your personal life
5. I will not hesitate to break the bottle of smirnoff black you are trying to confiscate over your head and run just like I did for my 19th birthday. Mate even took a picture of it but thats probably a little too incriminating to post but if you can find the right friend of my facebook you will see it.

they work on a base amount + comission on top. you lose social life for 3-4yrs though untill you specialise into a proper field that your intrested in. 3 of my uncles are policemen and all do highway patrol. =) earn about $90k a year + comission =)

UWS have a B Policing but only at the Bankstown (Milperra) campus. There were heaps of policing students in my Criminology classes lol they hated the law students.

cops are doing a job. they may be very harsh sometimes, as i've experienced once, but at the end of the day, you have to think - they are only enforcing the law. if anything, you are hating the very set of laws which are protecting you.

cops get heaps of fringe benefits, tax exemptions, lower house loans, etc. pretty much the same as the army reserve.

Some laws are worth hating. For example, there are arguments to be made suggesting that the fact that ecstasy is illegal is more detrimental than beneficial (since relatively pure forms of the compound are really quite safe, especially when compared to something as toxic as alcohol, and most of the ecstasy-related dangers seem to arise from contaminated compounds found in an unregulated market).
